Next week June 13-June 20 the Pilgrim cross will be in the home of the Fran & Barb McCarthy. June means lots of things to lots of people. For students, it means the school year is over. Families and individuals think of vacations and backyard barbecues. For most of us, it means the chance to get out into nature and soak up the summer sun. For priests, it is the time for changes. As you probably all know, Father Sahd will be leaving us here at Saint Joan of Arc on June 20th to become the pastor of Saint Mark s Parish in Greencastle and Saint Luke s in Mercersburg. These parishes are going to be so blessed to have him with his gentle, priestly ministry. I want to publicly thank Father Sahd for the many kindnesses he has shown me this past year. He literally introduced me to this parish and for this I will be eternally grateful. We have become friends this past year and I will miss him greatly. Next weekend, we will be saying goodbye to him after the Saturday 5:15 Mass and then again at our Second Sunday Socials after the 9:00 and 10:30 Masses. Please come out to thank him for all he has done at this parish. And keep him in your prayers---daily! I am sure you will also warmly welcome the new parochial vicar whoever it will be when he arrives on June 20. Priests expect change but that doesn t make it any easier. Oh, and have a great summer! 4 JUNE 5, 2016 SJA Festival 2016 June 16, 17 and 18 Volunteers are needed for this year's Summer Festival. Please consider staffing a game booth, working in the kitchen, helping with the outside food, helping with the silent auction or there are a dozen other jobs. Go to and click the volunteer area at the bottom of the page. You can also sign up during Mass the weekend of June 4th - 5th. DONATIONS The Silent Auction and Basket Raffle needs your donations to be a success. We are accepting themed baskets or just individual donations which can include tickets, passes, collectibles, gift cards, new unused items or even lottery tickets. Monetary gifts will be used to purchase items for either the silent auction or for baskets. No donation is too small. Please help us to have a successful year. Many employers offer a Matching Gift Program that will match an employee's donation to a local charitable organization. These programs are designed to be the means by which companies support employee charitable giving. This opportunity creates the potential for you to double the impact of your gift to St. Joan of Arc. For example, a $100 donation to the Heart of the Parish Fund can be transformed into a $200 donation through a matching gift program. Or a gift of $500 to sponsor a student s Mission Trip through our Youth Program has the potential to send two students on the same trip rather than just one. HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA YOUTH AND EDUCATION NEWS No Life Teen this week. Life Teen returns July 10th. All incoming Freshman are invited and welcome to come. Calling all Young Adults between the ages of 21-35, married or single!!! We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 7-8:30 in Meeting Room C. We will meet June 8 from 7-8:30 at Sorrentos for a night of fellowship, fun, and food. SCHOOL St Joan of Arc School is accepting new students in all grades - PreK3 through 8th grade - for the next school year. The PreKindergarten program for three year olds is half day: two, three or five days a week, in the mornings from 8:10-11 am. The PreKindergarten program for 4 year olds is half day in the afternoons 12:00-3:00 pm, five days a week, or a full day program 8:10-3:00pm. Kindergarten is a full day program. Busing by local school districts is available for Kindergarten to 8th grade students. Contact the school office for more information or to schedule a tour Hersheypark Opportunities Volunteer opportunities in the food, ride, and game operation venues are available through the school. Volunteers receive park tickets for their service and the school receives revenue. If you want a calendar of available dates, let us know so that you can be put on the contact list. Of course, we need that love every second of our lives. But at times God s love is especially precious to us, times when: we lose a loved one; life becomes so confusing that we do not know where to turn; or life just becomes meaningless and we need someone to listen.
