1 Northbrook Presbyterian Church July 7, 2013 Life in the Community of Faith Welcome to Northbrook! Please sign and pass the Welcome Register along your row and back. Please note joys and concerns on the Prayer Request Cards and place them in the offering. * Call to Worship 1 Emily Stetson Like flame, heat and light; Like wind, breath and spirit; Like water, moisture and the quenching of thirst; You are one, O God. Your nature, Your Word and all that You do speak with one voice, express one message, reveal one awesome reality. In the face of Who You are we are left silent and wonder-struck; And we ache to embody, in even the smallest way, some measure of Your integrity, in our doing, and speaking, and being. May the gaze of our worship so focus our vision on You, that we are changed, and Your wholeness is revealed in us. Amen. * Opening Song of Praise Here I Am To Worship Tim Hughes
2 Prayer of Confession How did it happen, God? How did we come to believe in scarcity? In not enough to go around; In you need to take care of yourself? How did we miss the plenty bursting out around us? How did we fall for the deception that what we can grasp in our hands would ever be enough? How did we grow so blind and so foolish that we would allow so much beauty and life, joy and laughter, sharing and love, to pass us by unnoticed? How poor we have become, and how poor we have made others, simply because we forgot your infinite, overflowing abundance; because we allowed ourselves to think that sharing and giving leaves us with less; because we nurtured appetites that are never satisfied unless they have far more than is needed, thinking stuff could silence our fear. Silent Prayer Forgive us, and teach us about your generosity again; Remind us that you are able and willing to do far more than we can imagine; and open our eyes to the plenty we enjoy, the plenty we can share, and all the plentiful goodness in our world that cannot be owned, but can be enjoyed by all. Amen. Assurance of Pardon * The Peace As we are reconciled to God and to one another, share a sign of Christ s peace and love with your neighbor. * Response of Praise 403 What a Friend We Have in Jesus What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear, What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, o what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. Scripture Reading Psalm 133 OT p. 575 Song of Praise Pass It On see next page Message Payday Rev. Marjorie Wilhelmi Matthew 20:1-16 NT p. 21 We Bring Our Gifts for the Ministry of Christ Offering * Doxology 593 Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow Avery & Marsh Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen. * Prayer of Dedication Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer
