2 President s Message Submitted by Shirley Wozimirsky Welcome to 2013! We shall have a fantastic year at St. Michael s. Do you want to get involved? All you have to do is pick up the phone when called and say I ll gladly volunteer to do the job requested. Be willing to learn to do something new. You learn by trying. If you make a mistake, you ll do better the next time. Please mark the following dates on your calendars: March 16 - Puschenia March 23 Easter Bazaar Advertise these events to friends, neighbors and relatives. Let s make these events a great success. Members let s all do our share to help this parish flourish. Get well wishes are extended to Dennis Skoreyko and Olga Batey. We will keep you in our prayers until you recover from your illness. Please let Father Nicholas or me know about members who are ill and need some cheering up. Due to privacy laws the priest is not able to find out if any of our parish members are in the hospital from the hospital clerk. 3 Sad but true An unemployed man is desperate to support his family of a wife and three kids. He applies for a janitor s job at a large firm and easily passes an aptitude test. The human resources manager tells him, You will be hired at minimum wage of $9.60 an hour. Let me have your address so that we can get you in the loop. Our system will automatically you all the forms and advise you when to start and where to report on your first day. Taken back, the man protests that he is poor and has neither a computer nor an address. To this the manager replies, You must understand that to a company like ours that means that you virtually do not exist. Without an address you can hardly expect to be employed by a high-tech firm. Good day. Stunned, the man leaves. Not knowing where to turn and having $10 in his wallet, he walks past a farmers market and sees a stand selling 25 lb. crates of beautiful red tomatoes. He buys a crate, carries it to a busy corner and displays the tomatoes. In less than 2 hours he sells all the tomatoes and makes 100% profit. Repeating the process several times more that day, he ends up with almost $100 and arrives home that night with several bags of groceries for his family. During the night he decides to repeat the tomato business the next day. By the end of the week he is getting up early every day and working into the night. He multiplies his profits quickly. Early in the second week he acquires a cart to transport several boxes of tomatoes at a time, but before a month is up he sells the cart to buy a broken-down pick-up truck. At the end of a year he owns three old trucks. His two sons have left their neighborhood gangs to help him with the tomato business, his wife is buying the tomatoes, and his daughter is taking night courses at the community college so she can keep books for him. By the end of the second year he has a dozen very nice used trucks and employs fifteen previously unemployed people, all selling tomatoes. He continues to work hard. Time passes and at the end of his fifth year he owns a fleet of nice trucks and a warehouse that his wife supervises, plus two tomato farms that the boys manage. The tomato company s payroll has put hundreds of homeless and jobless people to work. His daughter reports that the business grossed a million dollars. Planning for the future, he decides to buy some life insurance. Consulting with an insurance adviser, he picks an insurance plan to fit his new circumstances. Then the advisor asks him for his address in order to send the final documents electronically. When the man replies that he doesn t have time to mess with a computer and has no address, the insurance man is stunned, What, you don t have ? No computer? No internet? Just think where you would be today if you d had all of that five years ago! Ha! snorts the man. If I d had five years ago I would be sweeping floors at Microsoft and making $9.60 an hour. Moral of story if you just read this story, you re probably closer to being a janitor than a millionaire.

5 Ukrainian Women s Association of Canada союз українок канади відділ княгині ольги St. Michael s Ukrainian Women s Association February- March April 2013 Eternal Memory! The Women extend sincere condolences to the family of Mary Poloway who died on January 1, Eva was a member of UWAC for 28 years. May her memory be eternal. Ephiphany Supper The blessing of water took place on Sunday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m. Following the evening service a Christmas Eve supper was held in the parish hall. About 110 people attended the service. Everyone was invited to take home some Holy Water. Many of the people who attended the service came for the Christmas Eve supper. It was nice to see many new faces at this supper. Some of the comments were: nice to see the tradition kept mother used to make supper like this we like the evening service It is also important to note that the people who attend this function realize the importance of the Nativity and the Baptism of Jesus. Pyrohy Pyrohy making workshops will be starting again every Tuesday. All women and men are asked to come Tuesday mornings at 9:00 to help make pyrohy. This is an excellent time to enjoy each others company. We have a financial obligation to support the parish and these workshops are a major source of revenue for the Women s Association. Blessing of Candles February 15 is Stritennia. On a Sunday Father Nicholas will be blessing candles. Bring your special candle(s) to church to bless, take them home and light the candle in your home. This is an uplifting moment in your life. A blessed candle could also be purchased in the church. Memorial Service As long as we pray for the deceased, they will lie in peace and their memory will be eternal. During the Lenten period a special effort is made to remember our loved ones. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. People may bring kolachi and fruit to be blessed and then shared with others all in memory of the deceased. Within the past few years several of our members have passed away. Their families are especially invited to attend this service. For this occasion, the women are asked to wear a head covering, either a hat or a kerchief. This is a sign of respect for their deceased mother or grandmother. Following the service, everyone is invited to the parish basement to share a fellowship of coffee and blessed bread. Dates to Remember Women s Bi-Monthly Meeting... Feb 2 Easter Bazaar... 7 Presidents Report St. Michael s Men s Society I hope every one had a (Merry Christmas & Happy New Year) enjoy all the gifts St. Nicholas brought you. On behalf of The St.Michael s Men s Society I wish to congratulate all the members of our Parish that volunteered to serve on the 2013 Parish boards the executive committee and all the other committee chair persons, it is your commitment and dedication that will help our Parish function successfully. I always worry that from time to time we forget to thank some one for the hard work they do for the benefit of our Parish, I remembered words of a Prayer that Rev.Fr.Nicholas Rauliuk used,when he asked GOD to bless the members GOD BLESS THEM ALL THAT VOLUNTEER you know them and their names, believe me Gods list is all lot more up to date then one I could ever create, so remember if we forgot some one,god never forgets so keep up the love and dedication to your Parish, God is watching us. My hopes is the men society will get a casino early 2014, in the mean time we are looking for new idea of raising funds, so please feel free to pass your input as what you feel may work. As you can see the snow removal is going to put a big dint in to our budget which we have no control over, plus other on for seen expenses, puts the Parish treasurer needing additional funds. Our 2013 PUSCHENIA is coming up Saturday March 16 th /13 the band playing is THE NORTHERN KINGS all the ticket sellers now have the tickets to sell, so please pass the information out to help the sellers sell more tickets, as this is one of our slower events, some posters are posted if you would like a poster please see Henry Ewanchuk our social convener or ( macden1@telus.net) REV, FR.
