3 June 3 rd, 2018 From the Desk of the Pastor 2 nd Sunday after Pentecost Glory to Jesus Christ! Dear Friends in Christ, We read in St. Peter s epistle that we should always be ready to answer everyone that asks us a reason for that hope which is in us (1 Peter 3:15). With last week s defeat for the right to life movement in Ireland I think we need to be ready to give an answer to those who want to know what is so special about babies and their right to be born. I didn t address this too much in last week s bulletin because I thought the Pope would respond to this crisis. Until we hear from him, I think these points below should be helpful to us. First, God is Lord of life and death, not us. We humans have trouble deciding if we want vanilla or chocolate ice-cream, our whims change according to personal fancy, social pressure, climate, fatigue, bodily need, fear, giddiness, nostalgia, etc. Given this, do we really want to insert ourselves as masters over life and death? To me it seems the potential for evil is too great, and that no matter what, it is better to side on the cause of life. Let the babies be born! However, suppose you meet an inquiring mind who honestly knows nothing about the pre-born babies, but by default is culturally pro-abortion. This person asks you to give a reason for your position. At first, you respond by saying As a follower of Christ I believe the Lord Himself is master over life and death, I will not take innocent life. Your friend then asks you What evidence is there that this is life? In such a scenario, you may want to have these facts at the ready (all these relate to days and weeks after conception): In Christ, 18 days a baby s heart beats 8 weeks all organs function 9 weeks has individual fingerprints 10 weeks a baby can feel pain 12 weeks a baby can smile Jason, priest and sinner Did You Know? He can kick, turn feet, curl and fan toes, make a fist, move thumbs, bend wrists, turn head, open mouth and press lips tightly together. Her facial expressions may resemble the parents at 13 weeks At 26 weeks babies can live outside the womb

4 New Things Happening at Holy Trinity Please see parish financial report to in vestibule. Good news! All 48 spots for 1 st week of Day Camp at Trinity acres are filled. For 2 nd week 38/48 spots are filled. Special welcome to our graduates and their families this Sunday. Luncheon at Texas de Brazil, 240 W. Station Square Drive, Suite D1, Pittsburgh,PA will follow the 11 a.m. Divine Liturgy. Our next Festival meeting will be on Saturday June 23 after 4 p.m. Liturgy in the church hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are now accepting donations of soft drinks for the festival. We would like to keep the variety limited to make selling easier for our volunteers. So please donate Coke products: regular, diet or Sprite in (355ml) cans and water in 500 ml plastic bottles. Drinks can be dropped off at the rectory or church hall. Thank you Mr. S. Zinski for donating 200 cans of Coke for our Festival. St. Josaphat Society is offering scholarship to the graduating students. If you are interested, please or call the rectory to obtain application form. Deadline is July 14. Nate Tapsak is the young man helping out around the church and rectory this summer. He is helping with outreach to the neighborhood, secretarial and day camp work. Make a point of introduction yourself to him! He s considering seminary for Father s Day is Sunday June 17 th. The envelopes for the Father s Day Liturgy are on the side entrance and in the back of the church. The names will be listed in the bulletin. Day Camp 2018 is June 25-July 6. The registration for the first week of camp is closed, we have 50 kids registered for that week. We are still registering children ages 6-14 for the second week (July 2-6). To provide financial assistance to those families that cannot pay for the camp we try to raise money by selling hoagies. A big thank you to Angela Honchar for running the fundraiser and to all of you who buy hoagies. June 24 th we will hold a special collection for building maintenance. Each family is asked to be generous. What is generous? Well, give in the measure you wish God to bless you!

8 Events at Holy Trinity For the Parish Festival we are asking for auction items, monetary donations or gift cards. If you happen to have a gift card you will never use, please donate it to the festival. All donations will be listed in the bulletin. Please submit your donation by July 31, Please call Mary Sembrat at or Mary Ann Davis at with any questions. Consider also asking your employer to sponsor our festival sign. July 21 will be a parish movie night in the church hall and blessing of the kitchen plaque. Come on out! Details to follow! Prayer and Educational Events in Our Eparchy Evangelization Conference to be held June 9 th in the Cleveland area. Parish representatives are Lou Milano (who attends 11am), Jillian Lukac (who attends 11am) Nick Spak and Fr. Jason. Events in Our Ukrainian Community The Ukrainian Technological Society (UTS) online scholarship application for fall of 2018 scholarships, is now accessible. Current high school seniors or college students, log into then select scholarship application, and then follow the directions. Applications must be made online or postmarked, by July 5. The Ukrainian Technological Society is now accepting nominations for our 2018 Ukrainian of the Year. The qualifying factors are: professional accomplishments, humanitarian efforts, and contributions to Ukrainian arts and culture. Your nominee s accomplishments could be within the local, national, OR international realm. Your candidate must commit to attending our Ukrainian of the Year dinner dance on November 3rd, if chosen.
