3 September 16 th, 2018 From the Desk of the Pastor Dear Friends in Christ, Sunday after Exaltation Glory to Jesus Christ! This Sunday is Catechetical Sunday and as such I am really excited for our parish children who will continue their formal religious education. Notice that I did not say that they are continuing their religious education. Religious education is something that begins from the moment a child is conceived and is the proper domain of the parents, and the truth is that this religious education never ends. Even after death our religious education continues because we who are becoming saints will forever draw closer to the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. We are initiated into Divine Life through Baptism, and our new life is spoken of in the Scriptures in this way: The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day (Prov. 4:18). Our knowledge of God s law should grow brighter with each passing year. This Sunday I wish to start a Catechetical Series. This weekend we ll look at Vespers, next weekend Matins and the following weekend Divine Liturgy. The format will be written and vocal. The written component will be here in the bulletin and greater detail will be included in the homily. If you have a question about the faith, please write it down and put it in the collection basket. If you wish for it to be anonymous then put it in a blank envelope and write Catechetical Q&A on it and I ll address it in the coming weeks. In closing, I would very much like to thank our CCD teachers for agreeing to help with this most important ministry in Christ s One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I am grateful to the parents for trusting our parish enough to send your most precious gifts (your children) here for their religious instruction to serve as a guide against the prevailing secularism in our culture today. I would ask that children show up on time so that instruction can begin in an orderly manner. In Christ, Jason, priest and sinner PS: Beginning Oct.15 th I ll be helping out with chaplaincy responsibilities at Jefferson Hospital. This will not detract from my responsibilities here. Do you want to do something positive to end the sin of abortion in our land? Ensure our parish is prayerfully and peacefully well-represented on Sunday, September 30 th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the 40 Days for Life vigil. We will be meeting at the Planned Parenthood Clinic (933 Liberty Avenue) in downtown Pittsburgh, which has free on-street parking on Sundays. Two vigil participants per hour is what is recommended. A total of eight participants will allow us to fully staff this event. Depending upon interest, carpooling from Carnegie may be available. Available time slots are: 3:00 to 4:00pm, 4:00 to 5:00pm, 5:00 to 6:00pm, 6:00 to 7:00pm Since it is Sunday, you should be able to park at a meter without paying.
