2 From the Pastor s Desk What is the first of all the commandments? The question comes from one of the scribes that was perhaps trying to challenge Jesus? We don t know if the challenger had good or bad intentions asking Jesus that question. Maybe it was just another trap so that our Savior could have been caught in the moment for a long time? But Jesus answers very simply; That Loving the Lord and our neighbor is the answer. (Mk. 12:28 B ) Love has to have a great value to Jesus since He allowed the dialogue in the gospel to be so lengthy! Jesus is not expressing His opinion about love at that time only. His entire ministry is saturated with Love because God is LOVE. The many testimonies in our human history are recorded in the Old and New Testament. God creates everything out of Love. Love gives us a sense of immortality! The existentialist Kierkegaard described love as uniting the temporal with the eternal. He was explains this by showing the fact that our love for our loved ones lives even when they physically die. We can love someone who is not walking this earth anymore. No Matter how we can talk about Love, especially the one with the capital L, we should be reminded that Love is an ingredient of a true and happy life here on Earth and a number one reason, why we can be candidates fitting one day for Heaven! The perfect Love is the one that Loves God and our neighbor! Sometimes rough to practice but with Christ s help all is possible. Blessings! Fr. Robert M. Mass Intentions When a priest celebrates Mass each day, he offers each celebration of the Eucharist for a particular person, or intention. By doing so he applies special graces from God upon that person or intention. There are still many Masses available on the 2018 calendar. The 2019 Mass Book is open. Please call, , mail, or use the online form to send your requests. Saint Hugh of Grenoble He was named a bishop at age 27. In time of famine he sold his Episcopal ring in order to aid the poor. Saint Charles Borromeo lived during the time of the Protestant Reformation, and helped with the reform of the whole Church during the final years of the Council of Trent. He also reformed the Catholic life of his diocese. Charles Borromeo was a member of the Medici family, but unlike many of his relatives, he devoted his life to the Church. November 8. Blessed John Duns Scotus was one of the most influential Franciscans in the worlds of philosophy and theology. He is probably best known for his defense of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Scotus served on the faculties of both Oxford University and the University of Paris. November 10. Saint Leo the Great held strong convictions about the importance of the Bishop of Rome and of the Church. He viewed the Church as the presence of Christ in the world. Dedicated to building up the Church in all areas, Saint Leo the Great was also a man of deep spiritual convictions. franciscanmedia.org/source/saint-of-the-day You shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. -- Deuteronomy 6:5 Pray for the Sick Cheryl Albertsen, Susan Albrecht, Kathy Drenth, Vasiliki Georgiou, Ann Gilbert, John Gilbert, Georgie & Larry Schmitz, Bonnie Tarry, Elsie Tobolaski, Nicole Will -Help keep this request for prayers updated. (MARK 12:33) Of all the gifts that God gives us the one He wants the most is our heart. He wants us to share out of love, not out of obligation. Using our talent in parish ministry and contributing money to support our parish mission is important, but it s more important to spend time in prayer with God daily and discern how He is calling us to be generous with all of our gifts. Not just the visible ones, but the invisible ones like love, mercy and forgiveness. Vincentian Reflection Second Collection The Second Collection is for the Needs of St. Hugh Parish. This includes energy bills and repairs that need to be done. Envelopes that are labeled for other collections that are put in the second collection go towards the labeled collection.
