2 Rev. Fr. Chad Droessler, Pastor Sisters of Mary, Morning Star-Convent 4905 Schofield Street, Monona, WI PARISH STAFF Administrative Assistant Kathy Marshall Parish Secretaries Jodi Murphy (Mon.-Fri.) Bulletin, Office Cindy Dukerschein (Tue. and Wed.) Parish Records, Liturgy Schedules Finance Manager Bernie Heit Pastoral Care & Wedding Coordinator Ivonne Blahnik Director of Liturgical Music Catherine Henderson Faith Formation/Catechesis: Laura Soldner From the Pastor s Desk My friends, our Lenten observance is underway, and please know of my heartfelt prayers for each of you during these days of increased penance, fasting, and prayer. I hope you can notice that our liturgies are starkly different during these days: noble simplicity and increased attention on silence. This is by design! Cardinal Sarah, a great champion of silence offers us many worthy thoughts on The Power of Silence. Sarah explains our challenge: Modern man is capable of all sorts of noise, all sorts of wars, and so many solemn false statements, in an infernal chaos, because he has excluded God from his life, from his battles, and from his gargantuan ambition to transform the world for his selfish benefit alone. Instead, of throwing our hands up in the air because we are living during the dictatorship of noise, Sarah advises that nothing will make us discover God better than His silence inscribed in the center of our being. To help facilitate this, I ve asked the last two years that we omit a recessional hymn in favor of leaving church in silence. I d like to invite you to this again. But might I invite you to something deeper, instead of leaving right after Mass, like we re so accustomed to doing, what about spending some moments in your pew making an act of thanksgiving. One of the most outstanding acts of piety and devotion open to Catholics is to remain after Mass for a time of thanksgiving. Spending some time after Mass is a chance to recognize the special Guest you have received into your body and soul with the gift of the consecrated bread and wine no mere earthly food but the food of immortality, Christ Jesus Himself, the resurrection and the life (Jn 11:25). I understand that this is not always possible, especially if the children are antsy or that homily went a bit long! Or you have a tight work or social schedule. Nevertheless, if we are able to take some time after Mass, we ought to do so. Why? Because the virtue of thanksgiving is so vital to our growth in holiness. If we re thankful people we recognize the love of God in everything. After Mass during Lent, instead of processing out I will kneel down in front of the Altar to offer a thanksgiving. Please join me, and feel free to leave Mass at your discretion. By no means is this a command, but a simple invitation. Thank you for your openness and consideration as we worship our Eucharistic Lord. Blessings, 2 2 Shane Reinbold sreinbold@ihmparish.org Maintenance Supervisor Mike Hegge IHM School Principal Callie Meiller cmeiller@ihm-school.org Sanctuary Lamp Memorials If you would like to schedule a memorial, please call the parish office. Your donation of $10 will be in memory of your loved one for one week. THANKSGIVING AFTER MASS by St. Thomas Aquinas Lord, Father all-powerful and ever-living God, I thank You, for even though I am a sinner, your unprofitable servant, not because of my worth but in the kindness of your mercy, You have fed me with the Precious Body & Blood of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that this Holy Communion may not bring me condemnation and punishment but forgiveness and salvation. May it be a helmet of faith and a shield of good will. May it purify me from evil ways and put an end to my evil passions. May it bring me charity and patience, humility and obedience, and growth in the power to do good. May it be my strong defense against all my enemies, visible and invisible, and the perfect calming of all my evil impulses, bodily and spiritual. May it unite me more closely to you, the One true God, and lead me safely through death to everlasting happiness with You. And I pray that You will lead me, a sinner, to the banquet where you, with Your Son and holy Spirit, are true and perfect light, to fulfillment, everlasting joy, gladness without end, and perfect happiness to your saints. Grant this through Christ our Lord, AMEN.

ADVERTISER OF THE WEEK 250 West Beltline Highway Madison WI Stewardship Reflection for March 10, 2019 First Sunday of Lent I have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you, O Lord, have given to me. (Deuteronomy 26:10) This line from the Old Testament offers two challenges. First, do you give to God from your first fruits, the best that you have to offer, or do you give from what is leftover? Second, do you recognize that everything you have has been given to you by God? Ask God for a grateful and generous heart, every day, in all circumstances Living Our Mission Award Congratulations to Tom Gundlach, recipient of this year s Living Our Mission award, which was presented to him at the Benefit Dinner on February 22. Tom and his wife Patricia have been members of Immaculate Heart of Mary for over 30 years. Over the years, Tom has served as a member of our Pastoral and Finance Councils. He has been a Trustee and has served on the Endowment Board, Administration & Personnel Board, and Scholarship Review Committee. Tom is a lector at Holy Mass, and an altar server for weekday Mass. He is also on the Buildings and Grounds Committee, where he has given numerous volunteer hours to the school fire alarm upgrade. We are grateful to Tom for his example of faithful stewardship within our parish family. 3 3
