I am grateful to Bishop Morlino for his confidence in sending me here to shepherd the faithful of Immaculate Heart of Mary, and I am extremely grateful to my dear friend Fr. My first impression of IHM is that the good Lord has surely blessed the ministry of Fr. John, and through him all of you, and I am so blessed to be following the wonderful foundation he has left. Even though I am not as tall, nor do I have as deep of a singing voice, I, like Fr. John, only intend to continue the great work of Christ that is happening here, that is preparing your souls for heaven! When I first came to my previous parish of Blessed Trinity in Lodi & Dane as pastor, I told them what I now tell you, because my goal, my mission as a priest of Jesus Christ has not changed. As your pastor your souls are my treasure! I want your soul to shine forth in the beauty and freedom in which God has endowed it with. The truth is, if when I leave here as a pastor and you are not a holier person, if you have not grown closer in relationship to the Lord then I have failed you. I want you in heaven, but thankfully it s not me, but it is Christ who desires you immeasurably more. It s about eternal life with Jesus. That is why we are here, we encounter what we are made to do, to praise God. You might be asking, "Well, Father, what is the direction you want to take this parish?" My friends, our direction is Jesus Christ, everything begins and ends with Him - He is the Alpha and the Omega. This is indeed true reform, the reform that our Holy Gospel for this Sunday is calling us to. The whole summation of the Law can be contained in these two commandments: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." Hogan is the son of IHM parishioners Michael and Jeryn Veserat and the brother of Olivia. He graduated from Monona Grove High School this year, and is planning on attending U.W. Whitewater in the fall. Hogan also has two other summer jobs. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, swimming and board games. With so many tasks to be completed around the parish and school during the summer, we are grateful to have Hogan's help. Prayer during Year of Mercy This year, will you show God gratitude for His mercy by spending time with Him in prayer? Will you frequent the sacraments, especially Reconciliation, to receive forgiveness and the grace you need to live a life of holiness, growing closer to Christ? A regular prayer life takes time and practice. Pope Francis encouragement is to start with 10 minutes each morning, inviting God to be a part of your day. Consider reading the daily readings of the Catholic Church (found at usccb.org/bible/readings), asking Him what He wants you to learn from His Word each day and then thanking God for His blessings. Pray with your children each night before bed, giving each family member an opportunity to pray for something and concluding with an Our Father, Hail Mary and the Glory Be. Download and utilize Catholic phone and tablet apps, such as ibreviary, Magnificat, The Pope App or Divine Office. Ministry of Praise Mission: This ministry is a way for parishioners to be actively involved in the parish, despite being homebound or unable to physically volunteer their time in other ways. Ministers of Praise are especially commissioned and provided with special daily prayers and a monthly list of requested prayers. Prayer requests are placed in the wooden prayer box on the wall in the church main front entrance to the lower right of the literature rack. Paper and pencils are provided. Prayer requests are collected and then distributed to our Ministers of Praise. In this presentation, Matthew discusses the nature and role of beauty in life, particularly how it sheds light on the nature of God and assists us in achieving our glorious end, which is heaven itself. 5 LITURGY Ushers Needed! We are in need of more ushers for our weekend Masses, particularly our 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening Mass. As an usher, you would be responsible for arriving 20 minutes before Mass, assisting with the parish offertory collection, ushering the congregation before Mass and during Communion, assisting with other needs, handing out bulletins, etc. It is a great way to get to know other parishioners and the commitment is mainly for the mass time you prefer! If you would like to serve as an IHM usher, please call Kathy at the parish office at , ext Music Ministry The St. Cecilia Choir consists of those in 9th Grade to adult, and sings at our Sunday 10:15 Mass. The Funeral Choir sings for funeral Masses whenever available. The Youth Choir sings once per month (during the school year) at the 10:15 Mass. More volunteers are always welcome! Sacristans Needed We are in need of individuals or couples to serve as sacristans for our weekend Masses. Sacristans offer behindthe-scenes support to the priest for set up before and clean up after Mass. Teams of sacristans are being developed for each Mass to be scheduled on a rotating basis. Training will be provided. This is an important commitment, but one that does not require a great deal of time, and allows for sacristans to help out at the Mass they normally attend. Liturgy of the Word for Children (LWC) Before the readings at 10:15 Mass, the children in Kindergarten through Second Grade are invited by the priest to leave with a catechist and a helper. The children, catechist and helper meet in the Church Meeting Room, which has been set up for the enthronement of the Gospel Book. The catechist presents the Word, discusses it with the children, and allows time for their personal petitions. The children usually leave with some activity to take home to share and complete with their parents. Lunch will be served Monday thru Friday (except July 4) from June 20-July 15 and then Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from July 18-August 26 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Supervision will not be provided. Or To volunteer Sign- Up on Genius account: for Life Prayer Vigil Vigil for Life- Madison is in need of people to pray, witness and be part of a peaceful, perpetual presence on the sidewalk outside of Madison's abortion facility. Those who participate can sign up for time slots to come and pray. You may sign up for a one-time, monthly or weekly commitment at vigilforlife.org Vigil hours are: Mondays: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you sign up you'll receive a reminder before your scheduled time. Ash Trees on Parish Grounds Did you know...? Our parish and school grounds are beautifully shaded by 16 Ash trees. With the approaching infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer, we are hoping to take precautions to save our trees. The cost to treat one Ash tree is $150. Fr. John has invited us to consider "adopting" a tree by donating towards the cost of the treatment. This should save our trees or at least prolong the infestation for a few years. If our trees were to all become infested, we would lose a lot of trees all at once, and the cost to cut them down and plant new trees would be in the thousands of dollars. Please consider helping us cover the cost of treating our beautiful Ash trees. 5

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Vacation Bible School: Totus Tuus The registration form for m on-line here: Totus Tuus ("Totally Yours" - the papal motto of St. John Paul II) is a summer Catholic youth program dedicated to sharing the Gospel and promoting our Catholic faith. There are two programs: The elementary program (for kids entering grades 1-6 in the school year) will run from July 25 (Monday) thru July 29 (Friday), 9:00 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. at IHM. Students will need to bring a sack lunch. Cost is $25 per child. The junior and senior high school program (for kids entering grades 7-12 in the school year) will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Cottage Grove. It will run July 24 (Sunday) thru July 28 (Thursday), from 7:00 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. Cost is FREE!
