This victory saved Europe from being overrun by the forces of Islam. This picture shows the Blessed Mother appearing to St. Dominic in 1208, inspiring him to pray the prayers of the rosary and to teach it to others for the conversion of hearts. St. Dominic is the founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). The Blessed Virgin Mary promised to Saint Dominic and to all who follow that "Whatever you ask in the Rosary will be granted." She left Fifteen Promises to those who recite the Holy Rosary. Some of her promises are listed below. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. The Rosary will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenititude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death. STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection for October 7, th Sunday in Ordinary Time So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. GENESIS 2:19 The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations. First Reconciliation/First Communion If you have a child receiving First Reconciliation and First Communion this year at IHM, the Parent Meeting for First Reconciliation will be held on Tuesday, October 9 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Marian Hall. This is a mandatory meeting for parents only (your second grader does not need to attend). We will offer childcare during the meeting. Please let Laura know at lsoldner@ihmparish.org if you will need childcare, along with the ages and names of your children. Note...we are not set up to provide childcare for infants at this time. Please bring a copy of your child's baptismal certificate (if your child was baptized at a church other than IHM) to the meeting Holiday Bazaar - White Elephant Sale: You may now drop off your donations! Access to the lower level door near the rectory garage will be available during the following times: Monday thru Friday Saturday Sunday 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon We accept small household items, small appliances, kitchenware, electronics (NO TVs or old computers), knick-knacks, wall art, frames, floral décor items, linens, bath accessories, books, puzzles, infant items (NO CAR SEATS), toys for all ages, sporting goods, garage and garden items, purses and jewelry. NO clothing or large furniture items. If you are interested in donating plants or books, please bring them to Marian Hall on Friday, Nov. 2. Our volunteer sorting/pricing days will be the four Tuesdays in October, following the 8:30 a.m. Mass (October 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th). New volunteers are always welcome. NO experience necessary. Our Lady of the Green Scapular Knights of Columbus Council Youth Essay Contests All high school students of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish are invited to participate in the 2018 Knights of Columbus essay contests. Students are encouraged to write a 500 to 700 word essay on either of the following two themes: A) Catholic Citizenship: How does your family keep its Catholic Faith in Action? or B) Culture of Life: How has abortion negatively impacted the American economy? One winner from each theme for each grade level will receive $50 of SCRIP gift cards of their choice, as well as have their essays entered at the Diocesan level of competition. A runner up for each theme in each grade level will receive $25 of SCRIP gift cards of their choice. Contest packets containing the prompts, resources, rules, and entry forms can be picked up from Shane Reinbold at Wednesday night Religious Ed classes or by contacting the Council directly at greenscapularcouncil@gmail.com, which is also where all questions should be asked. PRAYER Pray the Rosary Coast to Coast Sunday, October 7, 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Madison, State Capital steps facing State Street. Please join us in praying the rosary with all Americans from coast to coast. We will be praying the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries at 2 p.m. during the Exposition of The Blessed Sacrament. At 3:00 p.m., we will be united in prayer with the rest of the country praying the Glorious Mysteries. Concluding the rosary, Father will give a short speech followed by hymns to Our Blessed Mother by The Ladies Schola of St. Norbert's. This will conclude with Benediction. For those wishing to stay, The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed. Also, First Class Relics of St.Dominic and St.Faustina will be available for veneration.
