As you know, our parish recently hired the Steier Group to conduct a planning study, which asked you, our parishioners, to offer your input. The results would determine the feasibility of holding a campaign to raise funds for: A) the addition of a parish Fellowship Hall and gathering space to our church, and/or B) an ongoing maintenance fund for the upkeep of our current facilities. I am grateful to all those who participated in the study. I would also like to thank Tom Bier, Joan Ogden and those on the Forward in Faith Committee for their dedication to this effort. Following the final report and recommendations of the Steier Group, I have met with our parish trustees and other key parish leadership to formulate the best plan for meeting the needs of our parish. After considering your input, it has been determined the priority for IHM at this time is to undertake a campaign to rebuild our maintenance fund and wait until a later time to seek further commitments for a parish Fellowship Hall. Our IHM Buildings and Grounds Committee is now in the process of creating an updated list of maintenance needs, determining estimated costs and developing a timeline, for each project. Once that information is complete, we will undertake a campaign to fund and complete those maintenance priorities. To make wise use of our financial resources, we will not be hiring an SACRAMENTAL CELELBRATIONS Congratulations and God s blessings to: Hayden Anderson Theodore Hyde Marcus Mengar who were baptized at IHM on March 11, outside organization to conduct this campaign. Parish leadership also remains committed to planning for the future, including the goal of eventually constructing a Fellowship Hall, as determined by the development of our master plan three years ago. As we enter the last months of the Forward in Faith campaign, it is hoped that outstanding pledges will be fulfilled. We anticipate having approximately $100,000 remaining in this fund, which will be a good base when our parish is ready to resume our Fellowship Hall effort at an appropriate time in the future. In the meantime, the Sisters of Mary Morning Star have been conducting their own campaign. I encourage you to read their newsletter article which provides details on their plans for expansion. We are so blessed to have the prayerful presence of the Sisters of Mary Morning Star right here on our parish campus. The sisters have gone through the proper planning steps and approval processes in our parish and diocese. Please know that the campaign being conducted by the sisters is completely separate from any campaign that our parish will be conducting. Despite the fact that our campaign goals are unique and separate from one another, our overall mission for now and the future at Immaculate Heart of Mary remains the same to know, love and serve God, to grow in holiness, and to help others in becoming disciples for Christ. HOLY MATRIMONY Please contact Ivonne Blahnik at x 309 for wedding guidelines. Weddings must be scheduled with the pastor at least six months in advance. 2 2

Chad This Fifth Sunday of Lent you will notice that something looks different in our church, you will notice that purple cloths are draped over the crucifixes, and statues. Why? Firstly, we are an incarnate Church, we need external things, but the externals are to always lead us to a deeper spiritual reality. The veiling focuses us, in a very concrete way, on the penitential aspect of this liturgical season. It reminds us in a visual way that our faith in all its glory is made possible only through the work of Christ in his suffering and death on the cross. When we cover or remove these holy and sacred images that we are so accustomed to, we are starkly confronted and reminded in a poignant way of all that Christ has won for us. And at that, veiling physically shows us what life would be like without Christ, we would not have the crucifixion, and none of the multitude of saints, our life would be empty, without hope. At this the church building goes through a death so to speak, veiling our eyes to the things that bring us life. This too teaches us, that our souls are to purge out all that brings us spiritual death, which is sin, and to replace it with the vision of Christ, who gives life. This tradition is practiced during the last two weeks before Easter, starting on Passion Sunday (now called the fifth Sunday of Lent) and ending on Good Friday. This time period is known on the old liturgical calendar as Passiontide. Even though this period is no longer officially called by this name, the tradition is still practiced in many places. Then, as in a dramatic unveiling, the holy images are again revealed for the Easter Vigil to mark the end of the penitential season. The joy of the Easter season and the hope of the Resurrection then comes to the forefront
