It is not easy for priests or parishioners to accept this very challenging time of transfers. The priest and his people in the parish become bonded as a family. Nevertheless, it is a reality that we know there will be a day to say good-bye. Having knowledge of this does not make the good-byes any easier, because there are still many emotions, sadness, and tears. Hopefully, the one thing I leave you with is a love for Jesus Christ and His Church. Thank you to all my faculty and staff of the parish and school and all the volunteers who have helped me in any way. Thanks to all of my parishioners over these last three years. We have accomplished much together. Thanks to Almighty God for calling me to the priesthood and His service. It is with a grateful heart in which I want to welcome Fr. Chad Droessler. I know that he has a great love for Jesus Christ. I want to wish him well as he starts his new assignment here. I know that you will show him dignity and respect as your pastor. Author Gail Sheehy said, If we don t change, we don t grow. If we don t grow, we are not really living. Growth demands a temporary surrender of security. Let us continue to pray for each other in these days of transition. God is good!! This weekend Immaculate Heart of Mary bids farewell to Father John Silva, who will begin his new assignment as pastor of St. Luke in Plain and St. John the Evangelist in Spring Green. Please make sure to stop over at his reception in Marian Hall after all Masses this weekend to extend your best wishes and share in some cookies and punch. And as Fr. John's new parishes welcome him next week, we extend our welcome to Fr. Chad Droessler as our new pastor. Fr. Droessler is coming to us from Blessed Trinity Parish in Lodi and Dane. All are invited to join in sharing in hospitality after all Masses next weekend (July 9 and 10) as we take time to meet and greet Fr. Chad! Please keep both of our pastors and our parish in your prayers during this time of transition. 2 Sanctuary Lamp in Memory of: Jim Henning Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Welcomes Our Newest Members: Amanda Eastman and her daughter, Kennedy Alexandra Peek Casey Cammilleri

ADULT FAITH ENRICHMENT Lighthouse CD of the Week In this dynamic talk Dr. Scott Hahn explains the importance of oaths, which invoke God's name and implore His assistance. He shows that oaths are also the means of transforming our personal relationship with Christ into a covenant relationship. Dr. Hahn then explains what led him to move from believing in only two Sacraments to all seven. In sharing these insights, he connects oaths to the seven Sacraments and unveils their mystery and importance. He reveals that the Sacraments are the ordinary means by which God empowers us to do His will. You'll discover that the Sacraments don't make holiness easy, but they do make it possible. See the Lighthouse display on the wall in the main Church entrance. Are you interested in becoming Catholic? RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) may be just what you need! For more information, please contact RCIA Coordinator, Kathy Marshall at , ext. 308 or kmarshall@ihmparish.org Young Adult Group July 9, 10 a.m., "Coffee and Catholicism" in Madison at Cargo Coffee, 750 E Washington Ave; July 13, Wed, 6:30 p.m., Stacy Blang talk/discussion, topic "The Seven Deadly Sins and Lively Virtues."; July 17, after 10:15 a.m. Mass, Potluck in the Park at Winnequah Park. Bring a dish or snacks to share and join in food and fellowship! Ash Trees on Parish Grounds Did you know...? Our parish and school grounds are beautifully shaded by many trees, 16 of which are Ash trees. With the impending infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer, we are hoping to take precautions to save our trees. The cost to treat one Ash tree is $150. Fr. John is inviting us to consider "adopting" a tree by donating towards the cost of the treatment. This should save our trees or at least prolong the infestation for a few years. If our trees were to all become infested, we would lose a lot of trees all at once, and the cost to cut them down and plant new trees would be in the thousands of dollars. Please consider helping us cover the cost of treating our beautiful Ash trees. 4

5 ACTIVITIES Garden Angels We are in need of volunteers for our Garden Angels Ministry, to help care for our outdoor flower gardens on the church grounds. This is a volunteer position that is flexible and can be done as your schedule allows. If you can help, please call Kathy Marshall at the parish office ( , ext. 308). LITURGY Ushers Needed! We are in need of more ushers for our weekend Masses, particularly our 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening Mass. As an usher, you would be responsible for arriving 20 minutes before Mass, assisting with the parish offertory collection, ushering the congregation before Mass and during Communion, assisting with other needs, handing out bulletins, etc. It is a great way to get to know other parishioners. If you would like to serve as an IHM usher, please call Kathy at the parish office at , ext Music Ministry The St. Cecilia Choir consists of those in 9th Grade to adult, and sings at our Sunday 10:15 Mass. The Funeral Choir sings for funeral Masses whenever available. The Youth Choir sings once per month (during the school year) at the 10:15 Mass. More volunteers are always welcome! Contact Catherine Henderson, Liturgical Music Coordinator: chenderson@ihmparish.org or call , ext. 305 for more information. Sacristans Needed We are in need of individuals or couples to serve as sacristans for our weekend Masses. Sacristans offer behindthe-scenes support to the priest for set up before and clean up after Mass. Teams of sacristans are being developed for each Mass to be scheduled on a rotating basis. Training will be provided. This is an important commitment, but one that does not require a great deal of time, and allows for sacristans to help out at the Mass they normally attend. If you'd like to help, or if you'd like more information, contact Kathy Marshall at the parish office ( ) or kmarshall@ihmparish.org. RESPECT LIFE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE Monona Munchies Lunches to Monona area families who may need a nutritious lunch. Many of the gently used goods donated to us are given directly to people in need free of charge through a voucher system. Other donated items are sold in our seven Dane County stores. Sales of these goods produce revenue we use to provide the food, medicine, housing programs, utility assistance and other basic-needs assistance we offer local people in need. After Mass on July 9/10 and 23/24, August 6/7 and August 20/21. During Parish Office hours Monday thru Thursday 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For questions scripihm@gmail.com Anne Bender or Claire Gnau / Stewardship of Talent Are you serving in a ministry at Immaculate Heart of Mary? With hectic work schedules and family life, we all need time to relax and exercise but we also need to rejuvenate ourselves through service. Reaching out in love to others, while sometimes difficult, is nonetheless spiritually enriching. In fact, it is a necessary part of our Catholic life. Perhaps you could become a sacristan, sing in the choir, or simply serve food and punch at a parish reception. No matter how big or small your contribution, our parish just isn t the same without you! The best part is, when we serve together, we not only form friendships with one another, but we also deepen our relationship with God Himself. Now that s stewardship! There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service, but the same Lord; there are different workings, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. ~1 Corinthians 12:4-7~ IHM Pastoral Council The primary mission of the Pastoral Council is to assist the pastor in his decisions concerning matters that affect the life of the parish. The council accomplishes this by providing advice and consultation. Council members are elected by parishioners to serve a three-year term. Trustees are appointed by the pastor to serve for two years on the Pastoral Council, three years on the Finance Council. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, September through June, with no meeting in December. Each council member represents and reports on the work of all the ministries of the parish.
