After a well deserved rest following the Fall Festival, our Craft Club will resume their Monday night sessions on March 11. We meet at 6:30 p.m. in Room M103, in the Marian Center. We create all sorts of wonderful things for the Craft Booth of our annual Fall Festival, but you need not be arty or crafty to join in the fun. This is a time of casual sports, but enough to get us up and active. No sports ability is necessary, just a willingness to pump up adrenaline, blow off steam, and burn calories. Attention Graduating Seniors: Scholarship Offering The Knights of Columbus Council is offering two (2) $500 scholarships to two (one scholarship for each person) current seniors from Immaculate Conception Parish who will graduate in 2019 from any accredited high school that the parishioner attends. Funds from this scholarship must be used for the upcoming school year for the recipient to attend a college, university or technical school. Additional criteria includes: a GPA of at least a B average, involvement in school activities, evidence of service to our church, family and community, a letter of recommendation from a school or church official, and a candidate letter expressing why you are requesting the scholarship. Applications will be available on Thursday, March 1, in the display case located in the narthex or available from the parish office. Application deadline is Friday, April 13, Father William Diersen Council No Prime Time Celebrates St. Paddy s Day! Wear your green and bring an Irish dish to Bethany Hall on Wednesday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. Need some ideas for that Irish dish: Irish stew, soda bread, cabbage, Irish potato bites and, of course, anything with Guinness or Bailey s!! Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl Ministry of Immaculate Conception has one purpose: bring joy and comfort to those people who are struggling with an illness. We knit or crochet hats, lap blankets, full length afghans for warmth, and pillows and seat belt covers for comfort. Please join this special ministry. Wednesday, April 17, Holy Spirit/New Life/Our Need for Church All sessions are in the church at 7 p.m. and each will last approximately one hour. Fasting & Abstinence The 40 days of fasting before Easter includes every day of Lent, except Sundays, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday inclusive. Thus, there are 46 days of Lent (including Good Friday and Holy Saturday), but only 40 fast days since Sundays are excluded. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are universal days of both fasting and abstinence from eating meat. Abstinence is also observed on all Fridays of Lent. Catholics age 14 and older are bound to observe abstinence regulations except for serious reasons; Catholics age are bound to observe fasting regulations except for serious reasons. For all other weekdays of Lent, the Church encourages fasting, either in the traditional sense or through some other form of self-denial determined by conscience. Other devotions, such as the Stations of the Cross, the rosary, scripture study, participation in daily Mass, and service to those in need, are strongly recommended. (CCL # ; USCCB Pastoral Statement on Penance and Abstinence.) Let the FRYING Begin The best fish in town can be caught on Friday nights at the Knights of Columbus sponsored Lenten Fish Fry. The Lenten Friday feast begins March 8 th and continues each Friday until April 12 th. Serving times are 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Marian Center. Boston scrod, shrimp or pizza; hush puppies with every meal size, with a choice of two sides from the six different sides, including the Vegetable of the Week! There has been a price increase this year due to the increase in cost over the past couple years and the addition of a 6% sales tax. Meal sizes will be: Large Meal, $12.00, including 2 filets or 12 shrimp and 2 sides; Regular Meal, $10.00, includes 1 filet or 6 shrimp and 2 sides; Small Meal $6.00 (adults or children 6-12) half portions of Fish or 3 Shrimp and 2 sides; children under 5 eat free. A 6% sales tax is included in the above pricing by State law. We accept American Exp, VISA, Master Card, and Discover credit cards.
