3 S 12 TS S O T Westwood High School September 10 am 3 pm Last year, St. Margaret Mary Parish parcipated having a booth and giving away Dynamic Catholic books & CDs, catechisms, and hundreds of faith themed goodies and candies. Again this year we will parcipate. Look for our tent. Stop by and say hello! RELIGIOUS EDUCATION for CHILDREN and YOUNG ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS If you have a child or young adult who, for whatever reason, would have difficulty accessing the curriculum offered through the religious educaon program in your parish, St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Norwood offers a Religious Educaon Program individually designed for him or her (beginning at age 6). The program includes preparaon for Penance, First Communion, and Confirmaon which are performed in a small seng in their Chapel. Bob Smith is the Director and Lead Teacher. The mulage class meets on Saturdays from 9 10 AM in the Siena Room at St. Catherine s School. This program is open to children and young adults from all parishes. Collecng School Supplies for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission School in Roxbury As we start the 2018 school year, our sister school in Roxbury could use a lile help. Mahew 25: 3540 From the Director of Music & Liturgy; The Adult and Children s Choirs of Saint Margaret Mary Parish will return to their righul places on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the 10:00 Mass. Our first rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 6, at 6:00 PM for the Children and at 7:15 for the adults. I want to encourage anyone who might be inclined to join us, to please reach out to me via at nemeskal@verizon.net. If you like to sing, have a strong commitment to music and liturgy, and find that your/ your child s schedule aligns with the choir schedule, then please consider joining us in the sanctuary each week. I am VERY excited to share the fact that on Friday, November 2, 2018, our annual All Soul s Day Mass, will feature a complete performance of the Requiem by French composer, Gabriel Faure. The various movements of this piece will be intertwined with the celebraon of the Mass that evening. This Liturgy is, in my opinion, one of the high points of the year here at Saint Margaret Mary s; a me to remember all those gone before us during the past year. Addionally, we will make an appearance at Christmas me at the Dedham Savings Bank, performing a short program of seasonal carols, something that we haven t done during my me here. As you can see, there will be a lot of opportunity to share your gi, if you are so inclined to join us, so please drop me an if you wish to join us for the Choir year. 4 S 12 TS S O T Dear Friends in Christ, We oen think of the Lord Jesus as a peaceful man. And righully so. I think we tend to forget that as true God AND true man, He would have felt the same range of emoons as all of us. As a meme I once saw said: The next me someone says What Would Jesus Do? don t forget that throwing over tables and hing people with a whip isn t out of the queson. We see that side of the Lord in the Gospel this weekend: "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is wrien: This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts. You disregard God's commandment but cling to human tradion." Jesus was originally speaking to the Scribes and Pharisees of his day, but His words are as relevant today as they were then. Since my last column several weeks ago, we ve been inundated with news reports naming priests and bishops (and even Pope Francis) of wrongdoings. It s hard not to hear the Lord s words without thinking of the allegaons made against the leaders of the Church over the course of this summer. And if you re anything like me, you re feeling a broad range of emoons most of them not posive ones. Confusion, betrayal and anger all come to mind. I suspect a lot of us think that anger is sinful, that we need to confess it. Keeping in mind that the Lord Jesus clearly felt angry at mes should help to recognize that isn t so. If you re angry about what you re hearing regarding clergy honoring God with their lips but not with their acons, you re far from alone. If any of these allegaons are true, we are jusfiably angry. But what do we, the average Catholic do? I think the answer comes from last week s Gospel. Aer a large numbers of disciples le Jesus, finding His teaching about the reality of the Eucharist too difficult to accept, the Lord asks the Apostles: Do you also want to leave? Simon Peter answered Him, Master, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life. This simple fisherman knew he had found what we all seek, the Truth, when he found Jesus. Our faith is not in priests, bishops or popes, our faith is in God alone. Remain close to Him. Also, I ask you to join me in praying for priests and seminarians, many of whom are having a very hard me with all of this, 99% of whom strive to live out their God given call to bring Christ to the world.
