Odds & Ends Thank you to all of you who participated in the barbeque last Sunday. It was great to gather after the mass and have the time to socialize and share a meal. Special thanks to Brian Cullen and Gina Semensi for coordinating the day. Our religious education classes also began on Sunday. We are still in need of a few teachers so if your schedule allows please consider volunteering for this important work. Faith is an important part of our lives and we need to share it with this next generation. As we heard in the letter of St. James last The 2018 Catholic Appeal campaign is well underway at St. Margaret Mary. So far, we have raised $78,355 toward our parish goal of $89,710. Thank you to all who already have participated. Your generosity will benefit hundreds of pastoral, charitable, and educational programs at work within the Archdiocese of Boston, and at St. Margaret Mary. With $11,355 left to raise, we need the participation of every parishioner. If you have yet to participate in the 2018 Catholic Appeal, please pledge online at or complete a pledge form available at the back of the church. Thank you for your prayers and support. Monday Night Rosary Monday evenings at 8:10 PM You need not know how to pray the Rosary. Rosary beads and prayer guides provided. ALL ARE WELCOME! week we need faith and works as a part of our discipleship. There are many opportunities at our parish to put our faith into practice. We need an army of Catechists, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, greeters, ushers, altar servers, choir participants and even people to launder the altar linens in our quest to have well run liturgies. Please consider being a part of our team. On Wednesday September 26 we will be adding back the daily mass for all the Wednesdays to follow. This means we will have daily mass at 9am Monday thru Friday. Please join us if you schedule allows. All God s Blessings, Fr. Bob Women s Book Club Our women s book club will next meet in the parish office conference on the 2nd Wednesday, 7-8:15. The book is Beautiful Hope by Matthew Kelly. It is a collection of powerful reallife stories that will inspire you to smile in the midst of difficulties and despair and infuse your life with hope. This is the last weekend to donate school supplies to our sister school Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission School in Roxbury! Please leave supplies at the collection boxes by the church entrances. Bruno, whose funeral Masses we celebrated recently, as well as all of our sick and those who have asked for our prayers. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION for CHILDREN and YOUNG ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Westwood High School September 10 am - 3 pm St. Margaret Mary Parish is excited to be a part of this fun-filled day for the second year in a row! We will be having a booth and giving away Dynamic Catholic books & CDs, catechisms, and hundreds of faith themed goodies and candies. Look for our tent. Stop by and say hello! If you have a child or young adult who, for whatever reason, would have difficulty accessing the curriculum offered through the religious education program in your parish, St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Norwood offers a Religious Education Program individually designed for him or her (beginning at age 6). The program includes preparation for Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation which are performed in a small setting in their Chapel. Bob Smith is the Director and Lead Teacher. The multi-age class meets on Saturdays from 9-10 AM in the Siena Room at St. Catherine s School. This program is open to children and young adults from all parishes. Forming Disciples in Mission is an all-day (or two-evening) session to help develop a common language and skill set for the New Evangelization. Participants learn how to share personal testimony, strategies to help form disciples, and develop an understanding of what makes evangelizing parishes. 4 September Dear Friends in Christ, There are countless spiritualties of our Catholic faith. For example, Franciscans follow in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi by trying to live simply and caring for the poor. There are similarly those who follow Carmelite, Redemptorist, Benedictine and many other approaches to the spiritual life. Among the most popular is Ignation spirituality, popularized by Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. One of the key principles in Ignation spirituality comes in meditation upon the Scriptures, to the point of imagining yourself being present in the scene. Close your eyes and try placing yourself in the midst of today s Gospel: walking along the countryside roads through Galilee with our good Lord Jesus and the Apostles. What do you see and smell? What s the weather like? Take note of the whole scene. Jesus is teaching you and then begins telling you all that soon he will suffer persecution and ultimately a shameful death on a cross. How do you feel? How do you think the Apostles feel? Now, let your ear wander over to what the Apostles are talking about in response to these sorrowful words of the Lord. How do you feel knowing that their response to this news is to argue amongst themselves as to whom the greatest of them is? Imagine the nerve of these men! Are you and I really any different from them though? Week after week we fill these pews and listen to the teachings of the Lord in full knowledge of the saving events of the Paschal Mystery, and then go out into the world to live our lives. How often do we fall short of what Jesus calls us to? This is the effect that sin has on our human condition. Through the death that the Lord foretells in today s Gospel (as well as the first reading from the book of Wisdom, written before the time of Christ), God has made His loving mercy available to us through the Sacraments of His Church. Notice how Jesus doesn t yell at the Twelve in response to their slow wittedness, but responds tenderly. Let us always avail ourselves of His tenderness first in sacramentally confessing our sins to Him through his priests, and then receiving Him - body, blood, soul and divinity in the most Holy Eucharist. Today, September 23, marks fifty years since the passing of Saint Padre Pio, one of the most beloved Saints in the Church. Padre Pio devoted much of his ministry to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, spending heroic stretches in the confessional at San Giovanni Rotondo in Italy. God has a way of raising up saints for the times in which they re needed the most. May Padre Pio intercede for us today for our desire to live in the state of Grace. CYO Basketball The St. Margaret Mary CYO Basketball Program is preparing for the upcoming season and will be accepting registrations for the basketball season. Eligibility requires players must live within the boundaries of St. Margaret Mary parish or must be registered parishioners of St. Margaret Mary parish. Anyone interested in playing this season can obtain a registration form on line at the Saint Margaret Mary Parish web site click on Ministries and then on CYO Basketball. Registrations should be mailed to the address on the form. CYO basketball has six divisions: Boys 5 th & 6 th grades, 7 th & 8 th grades, 9 th & 10 th grades and 11 th & 12 th grades. Girls 5 th & 6 th grades, 7 th & 8 th grades and 9 thru 12 th grades. Additional information regarding CYO Basketball can be found on the St. Margaret Mary parish web site. Play Like A Champion The Archdiocese of Boston's CYO Athletics will partner with University of Notre Dame s Play Like a Champion Today coaching certification program to elevate the culture of CYO sports and evangelize our youth. Attendance at one of these two sessions is necessary for all adults (persons 18 and older) who have the potential, as volunteers or employees of the Church, to be alone with children, the elderly or disabled persons.
