2 Your prayers are asked for the sick - we pray for those who are sick remembering all those in the parish, in our hospitals and nursing homes who are sick, We also remember those who are housebound and are unable to come to Mass. those who have died recently - Ken Murphy. May he rest in peace those whose anniversaries occur at this time - Alec Levak, Peter Doherty, Minnie Kit Edwards, Ian Gresty, Phyllis Pomeroy, Harry Westhead, Alice Holmes, Catherine Cartwright, Peter Bugarski, Samuel Aspinall PRAYER INTENTIONS We have left a file in the Lady Chapel and invite you to write there any particular intentions for prayer that you may have and we would ask that if you go to light a candle you include in your prayers all the intentions mentioned in the prayer file To prepare for this prayer, spend a few moments asking the Holy Spirit to open your mind and heart to hear this Word being spoken to you today. Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B) - Mark 4:26-34 J esus also said, 'This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man throws seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, he loses no time: he starts to reap because the harvest has come.' He also said, 'What can we say the kingdom of God is like? What parable can we find for it? It is like a mustard seed which at the time of its sowing in the soil is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.' Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it. He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when they were alone. Copyright 1966, 1967 & 1968 by Darton, Longman & Todd, & Doubleday & Co. Inc. and used by permission 1. Spend some time quietly reading and rereading the passage, noting the words/phrases that draw your attention. For Conversation: 2. The Kingdom takes time to grow. PROCLAIM 15: BUILDING MISSIONARY PARISHES is the name of a new national Bishops initiative being launched in 2015 to support the development of parish evangelisation. Inspired by Pope Francis, Proclaim 15 involves small group sessions within the Parish, a National conference in Birmingham on July 11 th supported by parish prayer vigils on the same day and also a Proclaim 15 event in the Autumn. As a first step, our parish will be running three sessions which aim to initiate prayer and reflection about the foundations of evangelisation. The first of these sessions was held in April. The other sessions are on 22nd and 29th June. at 10.30am in the meeting room, and at 7.30pm in the main hall. It will be the same content at the morning and evening session - so come to whichever is convenient. Everyone is invited to take part. Please do get involved in what is a significant new step in proclaiming the Gospel in our area. This pioneering initiative is for all clergy, religious and lay people. Why? Because we all share the one mission - to PROCLAIM the joy of the Gospel. Cardinal Vincent Nichols.
