ORDER OF DIVINE WORSHIP TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST November 16, :30 and 11:00 a.m. - Gathering Around the Word - The Prelude is a veil dropped between everyday life and the Sanctuary. When you enter the Sanctuary, the music should separate the world without from the world within. If you must whisper, let it be into the ear of God. ORGAN PRELUDE... Sonata - I. Cirri GATHERING OF THE COMMUNITY Sharing Christ s Peace Greet one another: "The peace of Christ be with you. Response to one another: And also with you. ORGAN MEDITATION on Nettleton- R. te Velde **CALL TO WORSHIP... from Psalm 90 Leader: Community: Leader: Community: Leader: Community: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Even before the creation, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. A thousand years in your sight are like one day when they are past. You sweep the years away, they are like a dream. Teach us to live day by day, that we may gain a wise heart. Let us worship you forever, O God! **HYMN OF PRAISE Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

2 **PRAYER OF ADORATION (11:00) followed by THE LORD S PRAYER CONFESSION OF SIN Holy God, you have shown us the ways of justice and nurtured us with love. Even so, we have not lived according to your will. When we are oppressed or unjustly accused, we cling to fear and forget to trust in your deliverance. When we can wield power and authority, we hold tight to our privilege and ignore your call to deal justly with neighbors. Hear our confession, and help us turn to you again, that we might live in mercy and peace, through Jesus Christ we pray (Moments for personal confession) KYRIE , verse 1 There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God s own son Precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One. 3 - Responding to the Word - **AFFIRMATION OF FAITH... from A Brief Statement of Faith In life and death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. **HYMN OF PRAYER I Want to Walk As a Child of the Light PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE (11:00) followed by CHORAL RESPONSE INVITATION TO DISCIPLESHIP Leader: Lord, in your mercy Community: Hear our prayer. PRESENTATION OF OUR LIVES AND OFFERINGS OFFERTORY (8:30) HYMN OF PRAYER 377. I Want to Walk As a Child of the Light (11:00) Sonata in C Major, K D. Scarlatti **DOXOLOGY... 2, verse 4 To thee, great One in Three, eternal praises be, hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see, and to eternity love and adore. PRAYER OF DEDICATION (8:30) - Sealing of the Word - + THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD S SUPPER + INVITATION EUCHARISTIC PRAYER AND THE LORD S PRAYER Leader: May the God of promises be with you! Community: And also with you!

4 Leader: Rejoice in the One who surprises us, people of God. Community: We lift our hearts to God who brings us salvation. Leader: Children of God, join in glad song to the Giver of mercy. Community: Our voices join in praise to the God of love and hope. Leader: Covenant God... together singing the glory of your name: Community: Holy, holy, holy are you, God enthroned in the heavens. All creation longs for the joy of the Master. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is the One who walked the dusty paths of earth. Hosanna in the highest! Leader: Holy are you...we speak of that mystery we call faith: Community: Christ died on that day of shadowed hearts; Christ rose on that day when death was surprised by love; Christ will come to us on that day of light and love. Leader: Your grace showers down... Hear us as we pray as our Lord taught us: Community: (The Lord s Prayer) Our Father...Amen. This delightful sonata is in two movements, Larghetto and Allegro. Offertory: The Italian composer/keyboardist Domenico Scarlatti ( born the same year as Bach and Handel) served Spanish and Portuguese royalty. He is best known for his 555 keyboard sonatas, single-movement works of unique charm and beauty. Postlude: Dr. Marilyn Biery is currently the interim associate organist at the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit, and she teaches at Wayne State University. This rousing Toccata features the melody of hymn #475 in the pedals with carillon effects in the manuals. Anthem: German composer/organist Heinrich Schütz, born 100 years before J.S. Bach ( ), studied with Gabrieli and Monteverdi. This arrangement by Carol Jennings features an obbligato (independent) flute part and double bass as framework for the choral parts. We thank Tiffany Hesser and Ben Lanners for playing with the Chancel Choir!

10 Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC) Upon action by the Session and Cimarron Presbytery s Commission on Ministry FPC is beginning the search for a new Associate Pastor. The Session has charged the 2014 Nominating Committee with the formation of an Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. The APNC will begin the search immediately upon their election by the congregation. The APNC will play a critical role in ensuring that FPC has clergy with the appropriate talents to support our congregation in God s service. If you would like to be considered as a member of the APNC or wish to suggest a fellow congregant to be considered for this service, complete the following form and place in the offering plate or the Nominating Committee box on the table in the Narthex. I suggest that congregant be considered as a member of the APNC. (Signature)
