8 M N R V Today we extend a warm welcome to the University Singers and their director Dr. Christopher Haygood, Associate Director of Choral Studies at OSU! We are grateful for their special music during our 11:00 service. Incidentally, two of our current FPC Choral Scholars, Kiandra Spencer and Brad Newcomb, are members of this choir. Prelude: Sheep May Safely Graze is an aria in J.S. Bach s Cantata 208, composed in This organ transcription is by Matthew Dirst, professor of music history and performance practice at the University of Houston s Moores School of Music. Postlude: American organist/composer David N. Johnson ( ) left a lasting legacy of both original and arranged organ pieces that are firm staples in every church organist s repertoire. Many, like this one, are suited to a variety of grand, joyful occasions including Eastertide! This piece may have been written for an academic procession when Johnson was teaching at Syracuse University. He later taught for many years at Arizona State University. Anthems: Moses Hogan ( ) was a pianist, conductor and composer best known for his settings of African-American spirituals, now standards in the choral repertoire. His prolific work was cut short by a brain tumor. Brant Adams (b. 1955) is the former head of the OSU music department and professor of music theory. He, too, is a prolific composer and arranger. This anthem will be sung in the original Latin; you are invited to follow the text of Psalm 33: 1 3 in the pew Bibles. Seasoned Adults Monday, April 18 6:00 p.m. Fellowship Hall If you have not made a dinner reservation, you are invited to come at 6:45 for great fellowship and fun games of Bingo.
