6 - MUSIC NOTES BY REBECCA TE VELDE - Prelude: This is one of my father s yet-unpublished pieces, in a free style but with a recurring theme. The composer writes: A song of gratefulness to our Lord for his mercies. A psalm, in that the song s verses are sung with interjected antiphons and narrations. Lester H. Groom ( ), my father and undergraduate organ teacher, taught at Seattle Pacific University and was for many years the organist of First Presbyterian Church in Seattle. Special Music: We thank Breanna Bunney and Ashton Patton for sharing their special musical offering at both services today! 11:00 Anthem: British composer and organist Antony Baldwin (b. 1957) is currently Director of Music at the American Church in London. In this reflective anthem, he juxtaposes major and modal harmonies, resulting in a lush musical language that sounds ancient and fresh at the same time. Postlude: Based on our opening hymn, this piece is a movement from Bach s Cantata No. 79, transcribed and arranged for solo organ by Wilbur Held. - THIS WEEK AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH - TODAY 8:30 am Worship and Communion... On Tuesday November 1, the actual date of All Saints Day, an evening service will be held in the Worship Center at 6 pm. It will last approximately minutes and consist mostly of prayer, song, reflection, and communion by intinction. It will be somewhat similar to the Lenten Taize services we offered earlier this year. On Sunday November 6 we will celebrate All Saints Day in the more traditional fashion, with communion being served at both the 8:30 and 11am services. There will be a candle-lighting opportunity in the columbarium area as there has been in the past.
