3 THE FEAST DAY OF ALL SOULS/BOOK OF THE DEAD On Friday, November 2, our parish will celebrate our Feast Day with Masses at 6:30am and a Special Mass at 6:30pm honoring all Parishioners who have died; especially those who have died this year. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be offered beginning after the 6:30am Mass, throughout the day, until the beginning of the 6:30pm Mass. Sign Up Sheets are located in the back of church. We need to fill 12 hours of Adoration to Commemorate our Feast Day & remember our beloved dead in Christ; please sign up for your hour. Beginning this weekend and through October, a Book of the Dead will be found in the Baptistery in back of church. Please enter the names of your beloved deceased family and friends. At our Masses on November 2nd, as well as all through the month of November, we will pray for those entered in the book and we ask that you too remember them in your personal prayers. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on Oct. 7th. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful. According to Catholic tradition & history, St. Dominic received the Rosary directly from the Blessed Virgin in Our Blessed Lady taught him how to say the Rosary & asked him to preach this devotion & to teach others to pray it as well. Since that time many victories, personal & public, have been credited to the recitation & meditation of the Holy Rosary. The Holy Rosary is a powerful weapon! Despite this, it is a prayer that sometimes gets lost. We tell ourselves that it takes too much time...but it really doesn t. If 5 decades at once is too difficult to fit into the day, break it down. It takes just 5-8 minutes to reverently pray one decade. Almost everyone can find 5-8 minutes & as one priest spoke from the pulpit, It s not ideal, but if necessary, mute the TV during commercials & say a decade. (paraphrased) Because it is such a powerful prayer, obstacles will crop up to prevent us from saying it. Although a beautiful prayer, it repetitiousness causes distraction. One suggestion, since our minds tend to wander, is to insert a reminder after...of thy womb, Jesus. For example, if you are praying the 4th Sorrowful Mystery & your mind wanders you could say something like of thy womb Jesus (carrying His cross), Holy Mary...amen In this tumultuous time in our Church, country & world, please turn to our Mother with this powerful weapon against evil.
