3 THE FEAST DAY OF ALL SOULS/BOOK OF THE DEAD On Friday, November 2, our parish will celebrate our Feast Day with Masses at 6:30am and a Special Mass at 6:30pm honoring all Parishioners who have died; especially those who have died this year. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be offered beginning after the 6:30am Mass, throughout the day, until the beginning of the 6:30pm Mass. Sign Up Sheets are located in the back of church. We need to fill 12 hours of Adoration to Commemorate our Feast Day and remember our beloved dead in Christ; so please sign up for your hour. Beginning in October, a Book of the Dead will be found in the Baptistery in back of church. Please enter the names of your beloved deceased family and friends. At our Masses on November 2nd, as well as all through the month of November, we will pray for those entered in the book and we ask that you too remember them in your personal prayers. 4 On July 11, 2018 a joint meeting of All Souls & St. Jude Parish Councils was held to discuss the Mass schedules for Holy Days & Holidays. Below is the discussion & outcome of this meeting. Both Parish Councils agreed to meet annually, around July, to review the previous year & discuss any changes that may need to be instituted for the upcoming year. All Souls Parish Council Members in attendance: Steve Bancroft, Jane Crane, Sharon Crocker, Liz Webb, Laura Voegelie; ex-officio, Fr. Jim Gray & Ruth Reimer Absent: Ken Crowder The meeting at the Overland Community Center opened at 7pm with a prayer offered by Fr. Jim Discussion began with the Civil Holiday Schedule, with the exception of Thanksgiving - It was decided that the Civil Holiday Masses will be celebrated using the current Parish Weekday Schedule: St. Jude, M/W/F at 8am & All Souls, T/Th at 7:30am Thanksgiving, due to it s larger celebration than other Civil Holidays, was discussed at much greater length - St. Jude Parish Council asked if Father Jim would celebrate two Masses, one at each parish. - Father agreed & a longer discussion regarding the optimum times for these Masses ensued. Consideration was given to family traditions & several options were discussed. - It was agreed that for Thanksgiving 2018, All Souls will celebrate a 7:30am Mass & St. Jude at 9am - The times will alternate each year in an attempt to accommodate family traditions for the parishioners at each parish Holy Days of Obligation, not including Christmas & Mary Mother of God (Jan 1) due to the uniqueness of which day of the week they fall - Both Parish Councils agreed to follow the schedule of this past year: All Souls: 6:30am & 7pm St. Jude: 8am -St. Jude Parish Council expressed concern that with only an 8am Mass, their working parishioners would not have an opportunity to attend Mass at their church - Father then agreed to celebrate a Holy Day Vigil Mass at St. Jude at 7pm in addition to the above schedule Immaculate Conception, December 8th, which falls on a Saturday this year, was not yet discussed. Mass times will be determined soon Ash Wednesday - Since this special day is always on a Wednesday, St. Jude Parish Council expressed concerned for their working parishioners as a Vigil Mass is not allowed for Ash Wednesday - Father Jim agreed to have a 5pm Mass at St. Jude on Ash Wednesday in addition to the 8am Mass at St. Jude & the 6:30am & 7pm Mass at All Souls

5 Christmas Eve was discussed in great length - When Christmas Eve falls during a weekend, setting the Mass Schedule will have to be developed each year as it occurs. - When Christmas Eve falls during the week, setting a firm schedule proved very difficult - Much discussion was given regarding parish traditions, family traditions & how to accommodate each parish as equitably as possible - As the early Christmas Eve Mass is the most well attended at both parishes, consideration & discussion was given to the physical size of each church - Both Parish Councils agreed that Christmas attendance at each Church includes many non-parishioner family members & Mass time choice is based on individual family schedules - It was finally decided that each year the Parishes would alternate the 4pm & 10pm Masses on Christmas Eve Christmas Eve 4pm Mass will be at St. Jude & 10pm Mass will be at All Souls - Next year, 2019, these times will be reversed - Fr. Jim informed the Parish Councils that it was suggested that a supply Priest could be brought in so that each Parish could have both Masses - This suggestion was discussed & both Parish Councils agreed that hiring a supply Priest for Christmas would not be possible Christmas Day, like Christmas Eve, when falling on a weekend, will be decided as it occurs - When Christmas Day falls during the week, the regular Sunday Schedules will be followed: 7:30am & 10:30am at All Souls & 9am at St. Jude Mary Mother of God, January 1st, when it falls on a weekend, like Christmas & Christmas Eve, will be decided as it occurs - When it falls during the week, because it is also New Year s Day, the Parish Councils agreed to the following schedule: 5pm Vigil Mass on December 31st & 10:30am Mass on January 1st at All Souls & 9am Mass at St. Jude on January 1st Holy Week/Easter - Many thoughts & opinions were exchanged at length regarding, the size of the crowds, & the wishes of the parishioners at both parishes - Since only one Mass can be offered on each of the days of Holy Week, it was the consensus of the Parish Councils, based on the physical size of the churches, that the Easter Vigil could never be celebrated at St. Jude & therefore Holy Thursday & Good Friday, at least this year, will be celebrated at St. Jude at 7pm - Holy Saturday Easter Vigil will be at All Souls at 8pm - Easter Sunday will follow the regular Sunday Schedule: 7:30am & 10:30am at All Souls & 9am at St. Jude The Parish Councils of All Souls, St. Jude & Fr. Jim understand that this schedule will not meet the needs of all parishioners but ask for your appreciation of the hard work involved to include every consideration & that all decisions were made prayerfully & to the best of their ability, for the good of all. Personnel costs have risen only 1% even after all staff members received a 2% cost of living increase endorsed by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Cost of supplies has been reduced by $9,944 over last year. The parish assessment (support services, archdiocesan high school support, property insurance, priests health insurance and retirement) has been reduced by $4,500 for The Annual Parish Festival produced $22,000 in profit this past summer, increasing the profit by $2,250 over the figure of $19,750 in 2017! Rental Income to the parish has been reduced by $2,515 per month. The interior of the convent building will be repainted and the kitchen updated.
