3 The Ascension of the Lord Page 3 A Message from our Deacon Mark Ruiz Being a True Witness Bearing witness to Christ, to His message and the power of His goodness, this is our primary mission on earth. Before He ascended, Jesus didn't say, "Go have a good me; go find yourselves. No! He said, "Go be my witnesses to all the na ons." This is the mission we have been given. This is what we are supposed to do. Each one of us will do it in a different way. God calls some to witness as priests. He calls some to consecrate their lives as full- me missionaries. Others are called to be leaven in the dough of the world, transforming culture from within, either as humble workers or as great leaders. Each of us He calls to bear witness by the sincerity, faithfulness, and lovingkindness with which we live out our normal responsibili es and rela onships. Un l this mission becomes our highest priority in life, we will experience an interior restlessness that nothing will cure. We were created to live in friendship with God, and that means sharing in God's projects and His project in this fallen world is "that repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached in His name to all the na ons." Right before Jesus ascended, St Luke tells us, He "raised his hands, and blessed them." Then He ascended and His disciples "returned to Jerusalem with great joy." Why were they joyful at Christ's departure? Because Christ had revealed to them the purpose of their lives - they had a mission; their life had meaning. Today, let's accept anew our life's mission, so that at the end of this Mass, when the priest raises his hands so that Christ can bless you, our restlessness will be taken up into joy. God bless you! Repent, go to confession: Confessing your own sins makes your prayers for souls more effective. Prayer on the Mountain Prayer on the Mountain is a series of three Saturday lunchtime discussions at the beautiful Carmelite Monastery in Georgetown, sponsored by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Auxiliary. All talks begin at 11:00AM, followed by a small prayer time and a light lunch. There is no charge but a free-will offering will be taken up. Come to any one or come to all three! This is for your benefit and understanding of this catechesis in our Parish #24. The tasks of the catechist includes going deeper into the Christian message through the knowledge of the biblical and liturgical sources and of ongoing living tradition of the church, including the theological movements which enliven the church today. We have only 2 more weeks of Atrium, please make Atrium a priority as each week we build on the week before. It helps your child to settle and listen for the Holy Spirit and it helps the catechist with planning her day. Please call if your family will be absent. Thank you! Our Branch will be passing out Biscotti & Business cards to the attendance after 8am & 10am Masses that day. The ICF is a cultural religious organization and our bylaws require that we attend Mass as a group at least once a year, it is called a Corporate Mass for members and community. Our last event was in May 2015.
