Save the Date September 14, 2015 at 6:30 for an inquiry night at St. Joseph s Large Conference Room. The RCIA is a journey of conversion to God and what He intends for us. RCIA is the processes by which persons, who were never baptized, were baptized in another Christian tradition, or those who were only baptized, but did not receive the other Sacraments, become members of the Church, a people on a pilgrimage to our Heavenly Father. Our youth group is back! We re starting September 15/16th we will have our groups on Tuesday 4:30-6:30pm and Wednesday 3:30-5:30pm And don t miss out! We re going to ONFIRE! Our community will join with hundreds of other cities participating in 40 days of life, a life saving campaign made up of three components: OUTREACHED YOUTH MINISTRY KICK OFF! Today the Outreached ministry Will be fundraising for our year of faith and fun! We will be selling $1.00 ice cream cones after all the Sunday Masses. 3 Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 Parish Mission Statement Guided by the Holy Spirit and following the teaching of the Holy Catholic Church, the Mission of St. Joseph is to be the best administered and most caring parish in Sacramento Diocese, through our liturgies, faith formation and social services for the benefit of the community of Auburn and vicinity. A Message From Our Pastor Father Cesar Ageas Ephphatha- Be Opened! In the First Reading, we see Prophet Isaiah s prophecy is beginning to be fulfilled. God is coming to save His people. God s salvation is expressed in terms of healing the blind and the deaf, the lame and the mute. The desert would come alive with rivers and springs and an abundance of life-giving water. Jesus, in today s Gospel, healed a man who was deaf and hardly able to speak. His need was very great that He had to have friends bring him to Jesus. Taking the deaf man aside, Jesus puts His finger into the man s ears and, spitting, touches his tongue and says: Ephphatha - be opened! Jesus act of healing is accomplished with a word of liberation. The man who was deaf and mute before is now open to God s grace and will. After Jesus heals him, he is now integrated into the community. He is now able to receive the message of God s love and, in turn, communicate it to others. The miracles performed by Jesus for those who were deaf, mute, blind, and lame are the root of the Church s concern for the disabled. In his encyclical letter Laborem Exercens, St. John Paul II says: In spite of the limitations and sufferings affecting their bodies and faculties, they point up more clearly the dignity and greatness of man (#22). With Jesus, the divine healer, we have a new creation- a new life. When healing takes place, a person is re-created, becomes whole again, able to take part in the beauty of creation and actively participates in sharing the gift of healing to others. God bless us! The Mission appeal is an annual program in which missionaries from around the world speak at each parish. We will welcome Fr. Albert Shuyaka Nkoy from the diocese of Tshumbe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire). He will share with us their courageous evangelization efforts on behalf of the Catholic Church and give us an opportunity to support their work in the field. Thursday Evening Bible Study The Prophets God Is Calling You to a Deeper Relationship with Him. If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the Church is his Bride, then the prophets can be seen as spiritual marriage counselors. They afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return to our covenant relationship with God. They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers of sin, and announce the blessings of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak to us even today, as they draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom.
