2 May 17, 2015 Page 2 Support our Diocesan Vocations in a FUN Way!!! The Diocese of Sacramento is hosting two enjoyable fundraisers in support of vocations. Please consider attending one or both! Bring your family and friends for a good time at: Monday, 5/18 - The Sacramento Classic! This promises to be an epic basketball game of the Diocesan Priests vs. Seminarians. Come to Christian Brothers Gym at 6:30pm to cheer for your favorite team! Information and ticket purchase available at or call (916) Tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for K-college age students. Saturday, 5/30 - Vocations Benefit Dinner. Attend a lovely evening complete with a great dinner (full meal including tri-tip and chicken) and an interesting program to honor our priests, seminarians, and altar servers. The goal is to inspire young people for service in the Church, as well as to contribute to the education and formation of our seminarians. This is hosted by the Northern California Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. You can purchase tickets ($40 each or Table of Eight for $300) from our parish Knights of Columbus Council by contacting Bill Gilsdorf at (530) , or contact the Vocations Office at msmith@scd.org or Introducing our new altar server ministry name: Guild of St. Tarcisius Saint Tarcisius, was a 12 year old boy who was martyred in the 3rd century while protecting the Eucharist. We want to give our altar server ministry this name; 'Guild of Saint Tarcisius' in his honor. There will be a retreat and recollection for the servers on May 23rd from 9:30am until 12:30pm. This will be in the rectory. Father will also have a special commissioning of all the servers on May 24th at the 8:00am Mass. Established over a hundred years ago, we resolve to con nue and maintain a strong Catholic presence within our parish bounds and make present the Christ we bear and celebrate. A Message from our Deacon Mike Young HEARING THE CALL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT When Jesus ascended into heaven, He mounted "His throne amid shouts of joy; the Lord, amid trumpet blasts" (Ps47: 6. All the angels and saints were giving Jesus a 'prostrate ova on' in recogni on that He, the Lord of lords and the King of kings, had accomplished the plan of salva on. The apostles shared in this worship of the glorified and enthroned Christ, but they 'had entertained doubts.' On the cross, when Jesus said: "It is finished," His disciples probably thought that He was saying His life was over rather than that God's plan was fulfilled. When Jesus ascended, no one had a new nature, no one was a child of God, no one had the Trinity dwelling in. them, and no one had the power to make disciples of all na ons. Why would the ascending Jesus be acclaimed in heaven when He le so much unfinished business? Because God the Father through Jesus sent within a few days the Holy Spirit; Jesus' ascension was right on me. In the Holy Spirit, Jesus' disciples were bap zed, received a share in the divine nature, were dwelling in the Trinity and the Trinity in them, and were made holy, royal, priestly, chosen and powerful to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. This was first Pentecost of the New Testament and the birthday of Christ's Church. Think about it! Through our bap sm and confirma on, we too are made royal, priestly, chosen and powerful to help take the Gospel to the ends of the earth as well. We are called by the Holy Spirit and all our recent Popes to par cipate in this New Evangeliza on to help Christ permeate the cosmos with His love and message for eternal happiness. We need to make the gi s of the Holy Spirit dominate our lives and accomplish the tasks He has set before us. Let us devote ourselves to 'constant prayer' for the coming of the Holy Spirit. For your informa on, there is a new prayer group, named One in the Spirit, formed and led by Michael Newell that meets at St. Joseph's large conference room every Friday 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This is a wonderful way to learn how to keep the Holy Spirit connected to us in our everyday life. For even more informa on, call Mike or Deacon Mike REMEMBER!! We pray that they will always stay close to Him in the Eucharist and that they remember to pray and read their bibles every day.
