St. Gabriel s Choir will be there, along with various choirs from local churches. This is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving with your community. Plan to come join us. In order to reaffirm the complete presence of Christ in the Host and to prevent the transmission of germs during flu season, we will not be receiving Holy Communion from the chalice from next weekend (Nov ) until Holy Thursday (April 13, 2017.) Looking forward to Easter!!! Next Sunday, November 20th is the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development & Black and Indian Missions. This collection supports programs and services for persons with low income, both in NH and around the US. Grants support programs that address community problems, increase education opportunities, and the create jobs. A portion also supports Black and Indian missions in the US. Last Sunday for the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Service. Every three years, we are asked to support the chaplains the Church provides for our military. This time, the Archdiocese for the Military Services will use this money for their Seminarian Program. Envelopes for this collection can be found in the pews. Please be as generous as you can.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK How about a King? When you consider the nasty, contentious, never-ending election season we ve just been through, having a king or queen might not be that dumb an idea. After all, England, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and many other countries have monarchs. Their citizens don t seem to be any worse off than we are. But, on this side of the pond, king is almost a dirty word. 240 years ago, we threw King George III out of here on his ears so that we could enjoy democracy? Well, is it fun yet? This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, a holy day that means a lot more to nations with monarchies than it does here in the US. That s because our vision of a king is that of an absolute ruler who must be obeyed whether he is right or wrong, whether we like him or not. History books are filled with stories of kings who were cruel, selfish, unjust, demanding and insensitive to the plight of their subjects. We don t need any more of them. But, how about a king who has our best interest at heart, who passionately wants to make us happy and who never makes mistakes or is unjust? How about one who leaves us free to serve him, free to accept his rules, even free to claim him as our Lord? Or even one who has laid down his life to prove his love for us? Does this sound too good to be true? If we were talking about anyone other than Jesus, it would be incredible. This is what the rest of the world is celebrating this weekend: Jesus, the Son of God, sitting at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us, helping us obtain blessings, forgiveness, guidance and inspiration. It is also Jesus, the Son of Man, who will come in the end-times to bring his own to the place he has prepared for them. Now, that s the kind of king I would love to obey and acclaim. 4 UPDATE ON OUR TWO SUMMER TRIPS Cruise to Canada: The trip is coming together nicely. We currently have 45 people booked and another 2 people have a firm interest. We would like to have at least 3 more, but have room for 54 in all. (The cost is $1304 per person). If you are considering it, please talk to us soon. We have to release the unclaimed cabins on Jan. 1st. Amish Country Tour: We currently have 26 people signed up for this trip. We need an additional 14 people to make this trip a go! If you have an interest, but are not ready to make the $25 deposit, please let us know. The total cost is $ If we can t fill the bus by Jan. 1st, we ll have to cancel and disappoint the 26 who are looking forward to seeing the play, the Amish and sharing a great adventure. Two important dates coming up: Thursday, December 8 Feast of the Immaculate Conception Holy Day of Obligation. Masses at 8AM in Franklin and 7PM in Tilton. Friday, December 9 Pemi Chorale will present their Christmas Concert in Franklin at 7:30PM. St. Gabriel Food Pantry gives coats and jackets to children in need. If you have clean gently used children s coats please consider donating them to the Food Pantry. Medicare Part D The deadline for the annual enrollment period for Medicare Advantage and prescription drug benefit plans is December 7. Seniors still needing to or wishing to change their plans can contact Servicelink or Leonard Campbell at NH Catholic Charities ( ) for questions. Something New: This year we would like to put up a Christmas Tree (in each church) and fill them with Angels representing each family in St. Gabriel Parish. If you would like to help out and sponsor one of the 42 boxes we need to purchase, there are envelopes in the back of each church for this purpose. A box of 12 angels cost $15, we will need 600 angels. You can sponsor a box, a partial box or just one angel. This will be a one time cost and a beginning of a new tradition. If we collect more than what is needed the remaining funds will go towards decorating the church!
