2 FEAST OF ST. GABRIEL September 25 & 26, 2016 CONVERT INSTRUCTION CLASSES (RCIA) It is not too late to join us for the RCIA Classes. We meet Monday nights at 6:30PM (at the rectory in Tilton). If you know a non-catholic who wants to learn more about our faith or a Catholic who would like to prepare for First Eucharist or Confirmation, please encourage them to find out more. They can call the office or talk to the pastor or any team member. The classes run through the winter and conclude at the Easter Vigil (April 15, 2017). This weekend s collection, September 24/25 is for the NH Diocesan Priest Retirement. The collection supports the NH Diocesan Priest Retirement Trust Fund. The fund provides retirement benefits to retired NH diocesan priest. Please give what you can to those who have given so much to us! (T) Knights of Columbus Council #12147 are sponsoring the Parish Cookout next Sunday, September 25 after the 10:30 AM Mass in the Parish Center in Franklin. The cookout is in honor of our patron saint, St. Gabriel. So come join us. We ll be in the gym in Franklin, rain of shine! Bring your family! Bring your appetite! St. Gabriel Group Choose from a 7- Day Cruise from Boston to Canada (starting at $1304) or a 3-day bus tour to the Amish Country ($339). You ll find forms in both sacristies and at the office. For more info, call the parish office ( ). As of last Sunday, we had 31 people signed up for the cruise, 20 for the Bus Tour. Plenty of room left on both. Cruise News: REGISTRATION FEE: until Oct. 16th, you can put $100 down (instead of $350) to sign up for the cruise. It will go back to $350 after that date. It doesn t change the full cost of the trip; it just makes it easier to sign up. The Registration Fee for the Amish Country Tour is just $25. GETTING TO BOSTON: we plan on chartering a bus (and another one to get back from Montreal). We get $859 in credit for every 16 people we sign up. We hope to get enough people to cover the buses. (More on this at the Oct. 16 meeting.) OCTOBER 16 MEETING: Our travel agent and a rep. from Holland America will meet with us at the Boutin Center on Oct. 16th. If you are at all interested in the cruise, please join us for this meeting.

Any news reporter or TV Station Manager will tell you this. So, today, as we honor St. Gabriel, the greatest good news reporter of all time, we could rightfully worry about his career. I think I know why good news is not popular. First of all, there s too much of it: how many cars, boats, trains and planes arrive safely at their destination? How many people are healthy? How many children are happy and well-fed? It seems we re always celebrating births, graduations, promotions, lottery winners, and new discoveries. We d have no trouble filling the newspaper with good stuff! Secondly, we ve been brought up on bad news, from Oscar the Grouch to the Grinch, cops & robbers, soap operas, disaster movies, etc. There s more violence and heartbreak on TV than anything else. Seems, it s always been that way! And, finally, there s our competitive nature. In some twisted way, we feel like we are getting ahead when someone else has a set-back. But they don t call it BAD NEWS for nothing! First of all, it is depressing for both the bearer and the listener. It makes you feel powerless, at the mercy of forces beyond your control, just a breath away from your own disaster. Secondly, a steady diet of tragic news, gossip and tales of impending doom can dishearten the most courageous soul. It can lead to What s the use? or I ve got my own problems, and, eventually, a loss of hope and an insensitivity to the struggles of others. Thirdly, and worst of all, it can weaken our belief that God is still in charge. How could a good God allow this stuff to happen? We are so overwhelmed that we forget about free will, about our actions having consequences, or the fact that we live in a less than perfect world. If we re to keep from letting bad news overwhelm us, we ll need to hear more about the good stuff taking place. Don t worry about St. Gabriel losing his job: he s got his work cut out for him!. 4 Council #11868 is sponsoring a Blood Drive Tuesday, September 27, from 2PM-7PM at the Boutin Center in Tilton Assembly #638 Meeting, Monday September 26 at 7 PM in Tilton The Angel Fair is Saturday, November 5. Don t forget to pick up your raffle tickets You can find tickets at all entrances at both churches. It is important to the success of the Angel Fair that we all take at least three books and buy or sell them. Weekends in October: Starting next weekend (and each weekend in October) we will be collecting donations for the White Elephant at the Gym in the Parish Center in Franklin from 8AM until noon. We do not accept furniture, televisions, large exercise equipment, skis and ski poles. Jewelry Collection: There are baskets at the entrances of both churches for jewelry items you would like to donate. Great chance to clean out the jewelry box! If you have questions or are interested in helping out please call Sandra Burney at or her at sburney@metrocast.net. If we are able to get enough volunteers to help out in the booths we will be able to work in shifts. So if you are able and have the time let us know! (Note Sandra Burney will not be available until after October 1). Don t miss out there is an interest in making and selling a parish cookbook. To see if this is feasible, we would like to collect favorite recipes. If you have recipes that you would like to see in this cookbook, please them to us at office@stgabrielnh.org. If it is easier you can drop them by the office or give them to Diane Williams IF this happens, maybe we can raise a few dollars for the parish. This is not an Angel Fair project.. ANGEL FAIR! THEME BASKETS RAFFLE It is time again to collect for the Theme Baskets that are raffled off during the Angel Fair. The success of this depends on the items that we are able to collect for the BASKETS. WEEK 2 (October 01 & 02) TEACHERS SCHOOL SUPPLIES! We know that teachers have a real need for extra supplies. This is a great way to help out. Think about what can be used in the classrooms! Suggested items include paper, crayons, pencils, pens, tissues, hand sanitizer, stickers, markers, glue, construction paper, notebooks, index cards (blank & ruled), whiteout, sticky notes, holiday decorations for the classroom or even gift certificates
