THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Sour grapes! Both Isaiah and Jesus have painted a pretty awesome picture of the perfect vineyard. There was nothing missing except the care and nurturing required to make it produce a rich harvest. I have never worked in a vineyard but I know that s not important, since neither Jesus nor Isaiah were talking about growing grapes. They both had their sights set on something much bigger than a winepress. They were talking about this world that God has set up for us. It is perfect, or at least, it was when God turned it over to us. It had everything we need to provide food, drink, medicine, shelter and comfort for everyone on the planet and then some. God would be well within His rights to cry foul! Look at the mess we ve made! The air, the soil and the water are all struggling to support our lifestyle. We belch soot and fumes into Servers Lectors Eucharistic Ministers Greeters the air and complain that it s getting hard to breathe. We throw sludge and chemicals into our lakes and streams and are scrounging to find water that is still drinkable. Then we cover our rich soil with pavement and pesticides and cry that we can t feed everyone. Maybe the Lord should chase us out of his vineyard and lease it to others who will value fresh air, clean water and fertile ground. As humanity seeks another habitable planet where we can make a fresh start, I have to wonder what the owner of the vineyard thinks of this idea. I bet He feels that there is nothing wrong with the vineyard He has provided that a more responsible team of caretakers couldn t fix. No matter what planet we re on, what s to keep us from producing sour grapes! 4 Raffle Tickets: The success of the raffle relies on each family doing their part to sell tickets. Extra tickets can be found in the back of both churches. Angel Fair Concessions: We welcome new ideas that people might have for sales, raffles or concessions. If you have any ideas please submit them to Sandra Burney at for consideration. White Elephant: Each weekend in October we will be collecting donations for the White Elephant at the Gym in the Parish Center in Franklin from 8AM until noon on Saturday. We do not accept furniture, televisions, large exercise equipment, skis and ski poles. Jewelry Collection: There are baskets at the entrances of both churches for jewelry items you would like to donate. Great chance to clean out the jewelry box! We have six themed-baskets that need to be filled for the Angel Fair Raffle. Next weekend (Oct. 07 & 08) we are filling basket #4 for Tool Box. This is new this year. Take a walk through the hardware store and come up with something unique, although screw drivers and hammers are always needed. Have fun making this a great success!
