3 Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church Hellertown, Pennsylvania Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Today as we end our Liturgical Year, we also bring our celebration of the Holy Year of Mercy to a close. The Year of Mercy invited us to a renewed appreciation of God s merciful love for us. Pope Francis stated, The Father s love gushes forth naturally, full of tenderness and compassion, indulgence and mercy. The principal image used as our focus for this merciful encounter with God was Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who lovingly seeks the lost sheep and gently carries it back to the flock. This image reminds us that true mercy embraces justice that produces healing and communion, rather than justice that inflicts punishment and estrangement. While the Year of Mercy called us to personally experience the mercy of God, it also challenged us, as beloved children of the Father and Disciples of Christ, to be missionaries of the Father s mercy to others. Animated by the mercy that we have received, we offer comfort and healing to others, we affirm their innate dignity as a child of God, we renew our bonds of unity as brothers and sisters in Christ. While our celebration of the Year of Mercy officially closes today, we know that God s mercy endures forever and that our mission to manifest this mercy continues on. Rather than an ending, today is a commissioning to make the mercy of God a more vibrant reality in our own life and in our world. May the Peace of Christ be with You Always, Father Tauber 2017 CALENDARS Calendars for 2017 are now available at all the entrances of the Church.
