For the New Year holiday, the office will be CLOSED Thursday, December 31 st and Friday, January 1 st. Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We are now at the final countdown for Christmas: 5 Days, 4 Days, 3 Days, 2 Days, 1 Day Christmas! This final countdown makes us think of all the presents that still need to be purchased and the presents that still need to be wrapped. It makes us think of the cookies that still need to be baked and all the preparations for our Christmas dinner that still need to be done. It makes us think of the cards that still have to be sent and all the decorations that are still in the attic or basement. Unfortunately, the hustle and bustle of this final countdown makes us forget want we are really preparing to celebrate. Yes all the baking, wrapping, decorating, etc. have to get done, but may we also take time to reflect on why we are going through all this fuss: The only begotten Son of God has brought us the joy of Salvation by becoming one with us. May our hearts rejoice and be at peace as we anticipate our celebration of the Birth of our Savior. May we remember that the great gift of this season is not the presents under the tree but the forgiveness, mercy, peace, and love offered to us in Christ. We have ordered box sets of Children s Envelopes for If you would like a set for your child/children, please call the Rectory Office ( ). OPLATEK THE CHRISTMAS WAFER An especially popular custom on Christmas Eve is the sharing of Oplatek or the Christmas Wafer, also known as Angel Bread. Oplatek is a flat piece of unleavened wheat bread embossed with a Christmas scene. The sharing of Oplatek is a sign of unity and solidarity. Family and friends gather around the dinner table before the Christmas Eve meal, say a prayer of blessing, and break off pieces of the Oplatek and share it with one another. During the exchange, wishes for God s blessings in the coming year are expressed. Oplatki (Christmas Wafers) are available in the main vestibule of the Church and also during the Ladies Guild Christmas Bake Sale, December 19 th and 20 th. $2.00 donation per packet / $5.00 donation for 3 packets (There are three Oplatki in each packet) REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS! I SAY IT AGAIN: REJOICE! The Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph December 27 Pope Leo XIII instituted this feast in 1892 to remind families of the sacredness of the family and to provide families with a model for family life. Joseph exhibited great trust in God and demonstrated intense devotion and love in caring for Mary and Jesus, protecting them from harm. Mary showed tremendous faith in God and trusted in God s love for her. As wife, she helped Joseph in his quest for holiness. As mother, she cared for Jesus with great love and tenderness. Both Mary and Joseph created the environment which allowed Jesus to grow in wisdom and age and favor before God and man. Jesus, for His part, was obedient to Mary and Joseph and obviously loved them both very much. Sacrificial love for others is the most significant attribute of the Holy Family: a love that allows all in the family to flourish in their quest for holiness. During the Masses on December 26 th and 27 th we will have a general blessing of all families. Immediately following the Masses, Father Tauber and Monsignor Schlert will bless individual families. St. Theresa School offers open enrollment for full-day Kindergarten and Grades 1-8. Pre-School Programs for 3 and 4 year-olds are also available. Our school is staffed with PA certified teachers and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The School and Early Childhood programs are based on our Catholic Faith, guidelines of the Diocese of Allentown, and Pennsylvania Education Standards to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade School students.
