2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, In our 2017 Christmas Appeal Letter, the Parish Finance Council and I addressed renovations to our church building that need to be undertaken to ensure that Saint Theresa will continue to be a strong and viable Parish both now and in the future. The letter specifically stated: Based on feedback we received from Parishioners and visitors, we know that the interior of the Church needs renovations. Concerns have been expressed about cracked and broken pews, dim lighting, worn carpeting, and the need for repainting. We all want our Parish to be a warm and welcoming community where we can worship with joy and where all, Parishioners and visitors, find a comfortable and inviting home. In the almost ten years that I have been here at Saint Theresa, the only significant projects that we have undertaken in the church have been the new sound system and the replacement of our boiler. As we draw closer to our Hundredth Anniversary on November 12, 2025, with careful and prudent consideration, we are evaluating what updating and repairs are needed. We are also carefully developing a plan for financing these renovations. In addition to the renovations mentioned above, we are also considering moving the Tabernacle back to the center of the Sanctuary to help emphasize the unique and central role the Eucharist has in our Catholic Faith. The Eucharist is both the source and summit of our Faith and spiritual lives. This truth is visually proclaimed by positioning the Tabernacle in the center of the Sanctuary. While we are still in the process of developing a complete plan for future renovations, I am happy to announce that we have signed a contract for the upgrading of our lighting system. Many of our fixtures and lightbulbs have become obsolete and outdated. By switching to modern LED lighting, we will have brighter and even lighting throughout the church. There will also be a savings in energy and therefore lower utility bills. To increase safety, we will also be installing exit signs and emergency lights as requested by our insurance company. 3 FAREWELL MASS FOR SISTER BERNADETTE AND SISTER ANITA Sunday, June 3, 9:30 AM We welcome new people into our lives with a joyful heart. When the time comes to say farewell, we do so with a grateful but heavy heart. For the last eight years it has been a joy and blessing for our Parish and School communities to have had Sister Marian Bernadette Chuk and Sister Anita Patrick Gallagher as members of our Family of Faith. This summer we will have to say farewell to both of them as they take on new assignments for their Religious Community, the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. While we will have them with us for a few more months, on Sunday, June 3, we will formally express our gratitude and best wishes at the 9:30 AM Mass. You will be able to express your personal thanks and best wishes at a reception in Friendship Hall following the Mass. HELPERS OF GOD S PRECIOUS INFANTS Saturday, May 12, 2018 Please join the Helpers of God s Precious Infants at a Prayer Pilgrimage for the unborn and all those involved in abortion. St. Theresa School offers open enrollment for full-day Kindergarten and Grades 1-8. Pre-School Programs for 3 and 4 year-olds are also available. Our school is staffed with PA certified teachers and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The School and Early Childhood programs are based on our Catholic Faith, guidelines of the Diocese of Allentown, and Pennsylvania Education Standards to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade School students. For information, to arrange a tour, or to enroll in the School or Pre-School, please call the School Office at or visit our website at SPRING CLOTHING DRIVE The Spring Clothing Drive will be held from May 7 th through May 11 th. Items that will be accepted are: Men s, women s and children s clothing, shoes and accessories, bedding, curtains, tablecloths, towels and gently used toys (hard and soft). Donations should be placed in heavy duty black plastic garbage bags and tied. Items may be mixed. Drop off donations at the Parish Center garage before school from 8-8:30 AM or after school from 2:45-3:15 PM Monday through Thursday. If you cannot make the drop off times, please place your donations behind the Parish Center garage, they will be collected daily. FREE CONCERT BY DONNA CORI GIBSON Sunday, May 6, 7:00 PM Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church 1861 Catasauqua Road, Bethlehem Internationally acclaimed singer, Donna Cori Gibson, will be offering a free concert open to everyone, Our Catholic Faith. Donna Cori Gibson. Donna can be seen on Catholic TV programs and heard on stations around the world singing music that includes word for word prayers from the Bible, the Saints, and well-known prayers of the Church. There will be a free-will offering at the concert. TRAINING FOR NEW ALTAR SERVERS We invite all students currently in Grades 3-11 to consider expressing their faith and love for the Lord and His Church by serving as an Altar Server for our Parish. Any Parishioner currently in Grades 3-8 who attends St. Theresa School, St. Theresa PREP, or a DRE approved Home School Religious Education Program and any High School Parishioner is eligible to become an Altar Server for our Parish. If you would like more information regarding the training process and / or the Parent Permission Form, please contact the Rectory Office. We thank all our current Altar Servers for their generous service to the Parish and hope that many more of our Parish children will join them in this ministry. THANK YOU TO OUR RETIRING ALTAR SERVER We extend our deepest appreciation to our soon-tobe High School Graduate, Marisa Linsky, who has faithfully served our Parish as an Altar Server for nine years. Our Parish Community will publicly thank her for her dedication and service at the Senior Altar Server Appreciation Mass on Sunday, May 13, at the 9:30 AM Mass. May God bless Marisa with His grace, fill her heart with His joy, and give her wisdom and courage as He guides her in all her future endeavors. In return may she always be His faithful Disciple. (Sponsored by St. Theresa s KOC.) BLESSINGS FOR MOTHERS During the Masses for Mothers Day, Saturday, May 12 th and Sunday, May 13 th, we will have a Blessing for all mothers. Immediately following the Masses, the Priests will offer individual blessings and present each mother with a Prayer Card. GIVING TREE AND BABY BOTTLE DRIVE FOR MARY S SHELTER (Sponsored by St. Theresa s KOC) Our Knights of Columbus have placed a Giving Tree in the main vestibule of the Church to help Mary s Shelter. Please take a tag off the tree and purchase the item(s) indicated on that tag and place it in the box in the vestibule. These items will be delivered directly to Mary s Shelter for Expectant Mothers in Bethlehem. They also have placed baby bottles under the tree. Take a bottle and fill it with your spare change from your lunches, dinners, shopping trips, etc. Return the bottle the weekend of Father s Day (June 16 and 17). You would be surprised how a little spare change can really change a mother s and child s life. 100% of the spare change will be given to Mary s Shelter. Please help support life by participating in the Giving Tree or the Bottle Drive or BOTH! Mary s Shelter provides temporary housing for young pregnant women, while assisting them with counseling, education, and quality prenatal care. The resident works with a counselor to develop and implement a plan for achieving independent living skills. The ultimate goal is the birth of a healthy baby to a healthy and well-informed mother.
