There were gifts from the parish as well as certificates for each child at the reception in Siena Hall after the children made their First Communion. If you did not receive these items yet, please get them at the organ. Pictures are available! For those of you who purchased First Communion photos, they are in. You can pick up your envelope at the organ before or after any Mass. SOLEMN CONSECRATION OF THE CITY OF ALIQUIPPA The Solemn Consecration of the city of Aliquippa to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus will take place on Saturday, June 4, Divine Liturgy will take place at 11:00AM at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, 1001 Clinton Street, Aliquippa, followed by Solemn Consecration. At 1:00PM a Solemn Latin Mass will be held at St. Titus Church, 952 Franklin Avenue, Aliquippa, featuring the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and Mozart s Coronation Mass. The consecrators will be Fr. Householder, Pastor of ST. Titus, Fr. Raptosh, Pastor of St. George and Fr. Polosky of Saints Peter and Paul Ukranian Catholic Church. CATHERINE S CHRISTIAN LADIES SOCIETY NEWS Last Week For Our Annual Baby and Diaper Drive If you haven t donated anything toward the program yet, please consider these facts... A baby uses more than 2,700 diapers in the first year. With the average cost of a diaper being about $.20 each, the total cost for one year adds up to more than $540 per child. 60% of infants of mothers ages 25 and younger live in poor or low-income families in the Pittsburgh region. These families, even with the help of supporting agencies, lack a sufficient supply of diapers to keep their babies clean, dry and healthy. For less than $10.00 (or the cost of a cup of coffee every day for a week) you can purchase a pack of diapers to help keep a baby clean, dry and healthy. Donations can be placed at the entrances of the church or in Siena hall. Please make monetary donation checks out to Catholic Charities We thank you for your generosity and support Hall Rental We have a beautiful hall for rent for any parishioner or non-parishioner who would like to rent it for their special occasion. The rental fee is $65.00 for the entire day for parishioners, and $ for nonparishioners. If interested, please contact Get Well Bags Available You can request free Get Well bags for those who are sick or in the hospital! Just call 4783 and we ll arrange it for your friend or loved one. Recycling Program As the summer approaches and graduation parties and picnics are on the horizon, please don t forget to save those aluminum cans so that we can recycle them! We have helped various charities in the area due to everyone s help with this campaign. It is a year-round effort. A Catholic campus minister at their college will be able to reach out to them and invite them to participate in campus ministry. It takes less than 2 minutes to do and it might be the most important thing you do for your loved one as they graduate high school! OLSH HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST 5K On Saturday, June 18, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School will host the Rally for McNally Endowed Scholarship 5K. The proceeds of the event will benefit a scholarship honoring Michael McNally 07, a graduate of OLSH who has faced extraordinary challenges resulting from an accident in which he was hit from behind by a car. 7 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ May 29, 2016 The Pastor s Corner Father Lou Vallone Earlier this year, I was asked to say the benediction at a military retirement ceremony. It occurred to me on this Memorial Day weekend that we honor the men and women of the armed services who did not live long enough to retire because they gave their lives in far too many battles. In their honor, and in the hope that someday ALL military personnel may peacefully retire, and that war and violence will become but a distant memory and no more of our brothers and sisters may be placed in a position to sacrificed their lives again, I offer this prayer. In the words of Scripture: that we may study war no more. Blessed be God, the merciful, the compassionate, the creator of the universe, whom we call upon now to grace our assembly as we honor the retirement from military service of our brothers and sisters here present. Having served country, community, family and God, with devotion, ability and generosity, we invoke the Lord to grant them a time of rest from their duty, having faithfully fulfilled the oath they swore decades ago at their induction, in defense of our homeland and its citizens. In gratitude, we lift up praise to God for what they and others like them have contributed, being mindful that: It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us a right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, like those present, who salute the flag, who served under the flag, And we hope in some distant future, whose coffin will be draped by the flag. And we recall and repeat the retirement prayer of George Washington, the first Commander in Chief of our country's armed forces, as a benediction: "I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection, that he would incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government, to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field, and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all, to do Justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility and pacific temper of mind, which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things, we can never hope to be a happy Nation."
