The class is repeated for three weeks, so you can pick a date that works for you. This month the topic will be Mary and Joseph, a great preparation for Lent. Our religious education parents and ALL interested adults are welcome. Classes are November 2nd, 9th, and 16th. A FLASH Life is the flash of a firefly in the night. Crowfoot Looking To The Last Day Today the Church remembers all who have walked the way of Christ and passed from this life. The readings all look to the last day, when we shall all rise from the dead and be reunited. The prophet Daniel announces words of warning and welfare. He cautions us against the judgment to come, but he also comforts us and assures us that all who live a life of virtue and justice will find life eternal. The reading from Romans reminds us that, because of Christ s passion, death, and resurrection and our entrance into that paschal mystery through baptism, we now share in the new life won by Christ. This recognition has repercussions: we need to live righteously now, that we might rise to life forever with Christ on the last day. JOSEPH YOUTH GROUP NEWS Memorial Mass St. Joseph s Teem Ministry will meet in Healy Hall on November 3rd between 4:30PM and 5:00PM to assemble soul cakes to be handed out at the Memorial Mass at 7:00PM for all families who lost a loved one between This is a very moving Mass, as each family will be invited to come forward and light a candle for their loved one during the Mass. Our group will then pass out Soul Cakes to each family, letting them know we are thinking about them and praying for them. Any teen who can make it for the Mass and help pass out the soul cakes, let us know we d love to see you there. Anointing Mass Sunday, November 16 12:00PM An Anointing Mass for people of the parish are all invited to attend. There will be a light lunch in Healy Hall directly following the Mass. Our group has been asked to help serve the lunch and help with the cleanup afterwards. Service hours for anyone needing them! Thanksgiving Day Presentation Thanksgiving Day Mass, November 27th - our group has been asked to perform a signed presentation of Thank You for Giving to the Lord during the Mass. Lou Vallone Because of pastoring two parishes that are not always in sync on activities, it has not always been possible for me to be very original in writing my Pastor's Corners. And sometimes the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. This week I wrote a Pastor's Corner for St. Catherine whose deadline is on Wednesday. But when I edited it for the St. John of God bulletin for a Thursday deadline, I discovered that it was virtually identical to one I published last year. It is not that I have gotten lazier or dumber, just busier, and I am caught short on writing a new one. But I don't want to eliminate this section from the Bulletin altogether. I therefore do what I can. So, the following is an adaptation of something that showed up in my . Here is something to make us stop and think. Take this Quiz: Name the five wealthiest people in the world. Name the last five Hiesman trophy winners. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. Name the last decade's worth of World Series Winners, or Most Valuable Players in the Superbowl. How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners, at least as far as living memory is concerned. Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one: List four teachers who aided your journey through school. Name three friends who have helped you thru a difficult time. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. Think of five people who have made you feel appreciated and special, wanted and loved. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. Name a half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you. Easier? The Lesson: The people who make a difference in our life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. The really important people are the ones that care. This week end we celebrate All Saints' and All Souls' Days. These are real people, although gone before us. Perhaps in our Faith celebrations, we can honor them more than the award winners. 12TH ANNUAL GRAND HAFLI The 12th Annual Grand Hafli, hosted by Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Maronite Catholic Mission, will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at The Club at Shadow Lakes, Aliquippa, PA.
