MAY CROWNING On Sunday, May 3rd, we will have our May Crowning of our Blessed Mother after the 9:00AM Mass. All First Communicants are invited and encouraged to join in our procession as well as all parishioners of St. Catherine s. This is a great way to start off the month of May which is dedicated to Mary and for the children to get another wearing out of their special outfits. We hope to see everyone there to pray the rosary with us. 9 WEEK NOVENA FOR DIVINE MERCY Since Pope Francis has declared this a Year of Mercy, we, at St. Catherine, have started a 9 week Novena of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy which will be recited every Friday until the final week on June 19th Please try to find time in your schedule to join us at 8:00AM before morning Mass. 3 Fourth Sunday of Easter April 26, 2015 ON MISSION FOR THECHURCH ALIVE! On April 28th from 6:30PM-8:00PM, there will be a Spring District Meeting hosted by Our Lady of Fatima, Hopewell. The topic will include Continuing the Conversation: A report from clergy discussion of all four vicariate meetings. This meeting is open to everyone and all are welcome. MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER St. Monica Parish, Beaver Falls, (116 Thorndale Drive, Chippewa) is sponsoring a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00PM. Come for a wonderful evening out, solve the murder and win a prize! The theme is Moonshine & Murder and will be performed by the Theater Company R-ACT Theatre Productions. There are prizes for the best costume as well. A large dinner buffet will be served and drinks are included. Doors open at 6:30PM. We have FREE BABYSITTING ON SITE!!! CATHERINE CHRISTIAN LADIES SOCIETY NEWS Spring Updates: Reception on April 26th THIS Sunday, April 26th following the 9:00AM Mass, there will be a reception for our communicants and their families as well as our parish family to congratulate our communicants and to celebrate the Feast of Saint Catherine. All are welcome for cake and refreshments in Siena Hall. Attention all business owners We are in the process of putting together a little booklet of our parishioners who own business so that our parishioners may frequent those business. If you are interested in letting us know of your business or where you may work even, please call Erin I would like to have this ready by the end of May. Siena Library We have a library in Siena Hall that is for everyone to use! This is for your enjoyment all we ask is that you return the book when finished. We are still receiving donations if anyone has any left over books they would like to donate. Thank you and ENJOY! Ladies...Don t forget to sign up for the Tea NEXT Sunday, May 3, 2015!. The Ladies Society must have a count so they know how many women to expect. A wonderful time will be had by all. Diaper Drive Our annual Diaper Drive will begin in May. All proceeds will go to Catholic Charities for women and children in need. Their needs are anything from diapers, to wipes, onesies, blankets, diaper cream, formula,bottles, bibs, sleepers, socks, toiletry items, actually anything that a family with babies could use would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support of this great cause! Tea Time! Our annual Tea will be held on Sunday May 3, 2015 from 1:30PM -3:30PM in Siena Hall All mothers, daughters, grandmas, or just lady friends bring your favorite tea cup and join us for some refreshments and entertainment. All women are welcome! This is a FREE event to thank the women of our parish for their support in all our causes and fundraisers with our Christian Ladies Society. So come enjoy an afternoon of delight and anyone bringing an item for our diaper drive will receive an extra door prize ticket! 7 Fourth Sunday of Easter April 26, 2015 The Pastor s Corner..Fr. Lou Vallone Pope Francis is scheduled within the next couple of months to issue an encyclical on ecology and environment - putting a spiritual spin of humanity's duty to reverence and respect the gift of the earth that God gave to us in His creation. God saw all that He made was good, but the sin of our first parents spoiled that, and we lost the Paradise that was meant for us in this world. The Pope's coming letter is meant to focus our attention back on our responsibility to honor and cherish the physical world because it is a reflection of the divine. These are words and ideas, and as Papa Cesco has said "Reality is more important than ideas.' When I was assigned to St. Catherine in 2006, I already knew of the Church - it was on one of my motorcycle routes and every time I passed it, I admired this corner of beauty that pointed to divinity - I always called it a post card Church, because of the condition of the buildings and the landscaping. It indeed in its aesthetics reminded one of an echo of Paradise, and God saw it was good. On becoming Pastor, I found that the charge of maintaining this slice of beauty was our groundskeeper, John Galzarano who for decades had invested his time, talent, strength and devotion, season after season, so that not only the parishioners who worshipped here on a regular basis, but uncounted thousands in vehicles, like me on my bike, could appreciate God's touch on creation in the environment. That service to us and all will come to an end as of May 1, as John has discerned it is time to rest from his labors and retire to enjoy his family. Well done, good and faithful servant! Going forward, when the garage is done, we will do a comprehensive landscaping project to restore the looks of what we disturbed, and then perhaps contract the landscaping duties to a company. John and his wife Marie were also responsible for janitorial duties in the Church and other areas, and we have made interim arrangements for that, looking for longer term solutions as we go along. In short, our gratitude to John and Marie are expressed not only in words, but in the commitment to honor their work by keeping St. Catherine as a little patch of God's beautiful creation, which I am sure Pope Francis would be pleased with as he writes his encyclical. MOTHER S DAY REMEMBRANCES Mother s Day is May 12th and we have available, once again, Spiritual Bouquets for your convenience. This beautiful Mother s Day card set contains a card with a matching envelope and an offering envelope for the parish. If you are interested in honoring a special Mother in your life (deceased or living - and yes, expectant, foster and mother figures are moms too!) these Gift Sets are available in church and at the parish office. Take a gift set, keep the card and envelope for your use and return the offering envelope, filled out with the name of the honoree and your donation, by either dropping it in the collection basket, or dropping it off at the office. The honoree can be anybody you want to honor for Mother s Day - Mom, wife, grandmother, mother-inlaw, Godmother, sister, aunt, daughter, friend etc. These envelopes will then be placed on the altar during all of our Mother s Day Masses. We will do the same for Father s Day.
