3 Divine Mercy Sunday SPRING CLEANING AT MT. OLIVET Beginning Monday, April 4, 2016, Mt. Olivet Cemetery will conduct our annual grounds spring-cleaning. All grave flowers, decorations, statues and broken lights will be disposed of, if not removed as of Monday, April 4th. All Rules & Regulations pertaining to Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery will be strictly enforced regarding placement of ornaments, flowers, and vases for mausoleums and graves. Anyone who placed Easter decorations must remove them by Monday, April 4th. Spring flowers for the crypt vases can be purchased at the Cemetery Office. The cost of the flowers is $ They are made by the Beaver County Rehabilitation Center. Please bring any crypt or niche flowers that are not within your reach into the Cemetery Office and they will be placed by Cemetery personnel. Your safety is very important to us. Please call the Cemetery with any questions. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS FIRST COMMUNION CLASS A meeting for parents of the 2nd grade class will be held DURING CLASS THIS SUNDAY, April 3rd. There will also be items available for sale in Siena Hall for our First Communicants. RELIGIOUS ITEMS FOR SALE Also, THIS SUNDAY, April 3rd, Allison Brougher will be in Siena Hall selling religious items. Rosaries, prayer books, jewelry, scarves and Bohemian crystal items are just some of the things she will have available. There will also be a variety of items for the First Communion Class. She will be there from 10:00AM until 11:15AM IN SERVICE DAY FOR TEACHERS There will be NO CCD on April 10th as this is an in service day for teachers. Judy Kirk will be here to meet with them. Thank you. ************************************************************ JOURNEYING WITH GRIEF If you or someone you know has recently lost a loved one, you may want to consider joining Our Lady of Fatima s Journey With Grief group. This is a 6 week program in which the bereaved journey through their grief toward healing. It is a process of understanding and working through the tasks of grief in a supportive and caring atmosphere. The group will be led by Sister Margie and will meet in the Fatima House Chapel on Wednesdays at 1:30PM beginning April 20th. Lately, there have been an increasing amount of cigarette butts scattered about our church grounds. There are receptacles at various stations on the property for cigarette butt disposal. They are for cigarettes ONLY! There are garbage cans for everything else. Also, gum has been stuck to the bricks on the outside of the church. This is OUR church! Please use the cigarette receptacles and trash cans at any of the convenient locations. It is EVERYONE S job to keep our grounds beautiful! Don t forget...cleanliness is next to godliness. Thank you for your attention to this matter. SPANISH CLASSES If you can t make it to our Spanish Classes on Monday or Wednesday evenings...no Problema! 5 Divine Mercy Sunday April 3, 2016 DIVORCED, WIDOWED OR SEPARATED? The loss of a spouse through separation, divorce, or death is a traumatic experience. The Beginning Experience weekend is intended to help widowed, divorced, or separated people who would like to pass through the grief and begin to move forward with their lives. Come to a safe place. 7 Divine Mercy Sunday April 3, 2016 ON MISSION FOR THE CHURCH ALIVE It is a word that is shot through the Gospels and Acts disciples. Jesus is walking with his disciples, talking with his disciples. And he is always teaching his disciples. They are his closest followers after the Apostles. There is the Commission of the 70 when Jesus sends themout in pairs like lambs among the wolves to prepare the way for him (Luke 10: 1-24). Just as in Scripture, we are called to this discipleship. We need to seek out what this means to us today in how we live out our faith. The Pastor s Corner Father Lou Vallone Once again, we have survived the High Holy Days of our Christian Faith. Spiritually, theologically and liturgically, it has been akin to a roller coaster ride. Unlike the Christmas holiday, a merry season of unalloyed joy, Holy Week shifts a lot. We go from the high of the triumphal procession into Jerusalem to the low of the Passion in the same liturgy on Palm Sunday. We shoot back up again on Holy Thursday with the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral blessing all of the oils for our sacramental use throughout the year, and stay on that ascent through the Mass of the Lord's Supper, commemorating the institution of the Eucharist and the ordained priesthood. But we plummet again before the night is out as we keep vigil with the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane, right into the Good Friday low of the Passion and Death of Jesus. We sort of coast through Holy Saturday on a plateau, but then we rise to the greatest of heights with the Easter Vigil: lighting the new fire, blessing the new water, receiving in new members by baptism and confirmation. And of course, soaring with the Resurrection of the Risen Lord in our glorious Easter Sunday Masses. On this high we stay for the next fifty days, until Pentecost. Quite a ride! As rich as all this liturgical activity is, somehow Easter does not carry with it the same emotional punch as Christmas, nor is it as universally entered into by nonbelievers. Bunnies and bonnets and dyed eggs and baskets some how fall short of the impact of the Star and Tree and wreaths and candy canes and other accouterments that the Yule Tide brings. Maybe we are more urgent at Christmas because of the depths of winter, and more laid back at Easter because of the dawning of Spring. But even the paler symbols of Easter carry their hidden spirituality: Jelly Bean Prayer Red is for the blood He gave, Green is for the grass He made, Yellow is for the sun so bright, Orange is for the edge of night. Black is for the sins we made, White is for the grace he gave, Purple is for His hour of sorrow, Pink is for our new tomorrow. A bag full of jelly beans, Colorful and sweet, Is a prayer, is a promise, Is a friend's small treat. Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Let those who fear the Lord say, His mercy endures forever.
