2 COMMUNION ETIQUETTE If you are either baptized and or confirmed as an Orthodox Christian and have spiritually prepared to receive Holy Communion, please come up from the middle aisle of the Church with reverence and humility, row by row, in a QUIET and ORDERLY fashion, and depart as directed. Please remain seated in your pews until a council member indicates your row should go forward. If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. In receiving Communion, you should place the cloth under your chin, recite your CHRISTIAN NAME, and wipe your mouth after receiving. Women, please remove your lipstick prior to receiving Communion. 4 Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 2:2-10 BRETHREN, if the message declared by angels was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard him, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will. For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. It has been testified somewhere, "What is man that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man, that thou carest for him? Thou didst make him for a little while lower than the angels, thou hast crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet." Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for every one. For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. 8 Nominations for Parish Council The Nominating Committee is seeking individuals who desire to serve on Holy Trinity s Parish Council. There are nine positions up for election. Elected individuals would serve a two-year term, If you have a love for our church and a passion to serve, please consider running for this vital office. If you would like to run for the parish council, please approach any member of the Nominating Committee to express your interest. The Committee will report the names of the nominees at the General Assembly meeting on November 8. 9 The 2016 GOYA Basketball Tournament will be held January 15-18, 2016 in Dallas, Texas! The annual basketball tournament brings together GOYANS and family members from throughout the Metropolis of Denver. It is the largest gathering of any kind in the Metropolis and offers an atmosphere of Christian fellowship and friendly competition. Please note the registration dates below: Registration: (November 1-30, 2015) $250 Any difficulties or concerns with registration, please contact Father Peter This year instead of the wreath fundraiser, we are selling poinsettias. 12 MISSION BLANKETS We are currently communicating with Fr. Alaniz in Anjara, Jordan about the logistics of sending our 32 blankets to the children of the Mother of Hope Orphanage where he is the director. As soon as the details have been arranged we will ship them. He has sent all of you who have contributed to this effort, as well as our entire church, his blessings and appreciation in advance. He is expressing great happiness in anticipation of receiving these "presents" for the children. Thank all of you who have given of your time, talent and treasure toward the orphans in Jordan. Now, while we start thinking about Christmas shopping, let's consider adding an orphan to our list. In spring next year we plan to reach out to a brand new children's home being started in Sierra Leone, West Africa. This is being done by another Orthodox priest in response to the aftermath of the Ebola crisis. It will be our 10th shipment, and we thank God for blessing us so that we in turn, can bless these precious children. By our calculation, if each stewardship family pledged an extra $45 for 2015, we would easily meet our budget goal. We have already had many responses to this appeal, and to those stewards who have stepped up and increased their 2015 pledges, we are very grateful! We would like to offer everyone a chance to participate in this effort in the simplest way possible. To that end, we created an online form where, with just a couple mouse clicks you can make a commitment to help close the gap. The link is: Note that this is an online pledge form, not an online payment form. Additions made to your 2015 commitment will then be reflected on your subsequent stewardship statements, so you may take care of payment in whatever way is convenient for you. 16 (continued from Page 15) Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What is "the gap"? A: Our 2015 stewardship goal, set out in the budget the parish approved last November, was roughly $930,000. As of mid-year, pledges for 2015 stewardship amounted to a little more than $900,000. That's "the gap": the roughly $30,000 difference between the 2015 budget goal and the pledges we've received so far. Q: How did it come about? A: Every year we are blessed and humbled by the generosity of you, our parishioners; your pledges have almost always exceeded our budget goals. Around mid-summer, though, it became clear that pledges were going to fall short of our goal, and the "close the gap" campaign was developed in response. Q: So is the church looking at a deficit for 2015? A: Thankfully, no. Our festival, under excellent leadership and blessed with good weather, should keep us "in the black" for But that only makes the need slightly less urgent, and in fact highlights the importance of gradually weaning our parish from reliance on the festival to pay our basic operating costs. That's a less than ideal way to operate, and since we aim to become a "100 percent stewardship" parish, we need to clearly hit our stewardship targets. Q: What can we do to close the gap? A: The gap, about $30,000 (and shrinking, thanks to those who've already increased their pledges), amounts to about an extra $45 from each of our stewardship families. If each of our families could commit to increase their 2015 pledge by that amount or more, we would easily meet our target, and we would be another step closer to the goal of paying our operating expenses entirely from stewardship.
