4 Epistle Reading St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 4:9-16 BRETHREN, God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all things. I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. English Reader: Peter Papanicolaou Greek Reader: Lea Papanicolaou Gospel Reading Matthew 17:14-23 At that time, a man came up to Him and kneeling before Him said, "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not heal him." And Jesus answered, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me." And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" He said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move hence to yonder place,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. But this kind never comes out except by prayer and fasting." As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day." 4

24 Perm-A-Tatch Gluing Instructions By Harry Yianitsas, Stewardship Chairman Thank you for your interest in Perm-A- Tatch Glue. Please carefully read and follow these instructions to ensure best performance and permanent bonding. Check and inspect article to be glued. Surfaces must be clean and free of soiling, debris or unclean matter. Surfaces may be cleaned with water and mineral spirits. New articles bond very well. Older articles may require additional preparation and optional light sanding with abrasive. Apply glue to article being attached. Spread adhesive across important areas, making sure to focus on potential weak areas. Clamp surfaces tightly together to promote thorough bonding and cross-linking of adhesive. Leave clamped until both surfaces are permanently attached. When clamps are removed, check for a permanent bond. If articles separate, re-clamp surfaces together to promote reattachment. Occasional de-bonding may occur. Challenging glue-ups may require occasional re-clamping and possibly more adhesive application. However, it is essential the user not give up. Permanent bonding is essential for lifetime repair and use of article. A good bond will strengthen with time. Many of us recognize the above instructions in one form or another. They are printed in tiny print on the side of a bottle of glue, waiting to instruct us on the secret to a successful gluing task. I realized these instructions are also the secret to a permanent bond with our church. Following these directions will ensure that the adults, and especially the children, of our community develop a strong bond with their church and become good stewards. Let s take another look at the above directions as they pertain to our bonding to the Church: Check and inspect article to be glued. Surfaces must be clean and free of soiling, debris or unclean matter. Surfaces may be cleaned with water and mineral spirits. New articles bond very well. Older articles may require additional preparation and optional light sanding with abrasive. - Who wishes to join the church? Just before they join, they are cleaned with baptismal water and the Holy Spirit. Babies join with the faith of a child, while adults may need a bit more surface preparation. Apply glue to article being attached. Spread adhesive across important areas, making sure to focus on potential weak areas. - Through Chrismation, the seal of the Holy Spirit is applied to us, paying attention to the potential trouble spots such as our hands, feet, mouth and thoughts. Clamp surfaces tightly together to promote thorough bonding and cross-linking of adhesive. Leave clamped until both surfaces are permanently attached. When clamps are removed, check for a permanent bond. If articles separate, re-clamp surfaces together to promote reattachment. - This is the step many of us tend to be lax with, or even omit entirely. If we want ourselves and our children to stay bonded to the Church, we must keep them clamped to it. It s simply not enough to be baptized and chrismated. We must constantly test the bond with our church to see if we are still attached. When we are truly attached to our church, we are deeply linked to the meaning of the cross. Participating in prayer, scripture reading, Sunday School, church services and other church activities will greatly increase the chances of a life-long bond to our church. Occasional de-bonding may occur. Challenging glue-ups may require occasional re-clamping and possibly more adhesive application. However, it is essential the user not give up. Permanent bonding is essential for lifetime repair and use of article. A good bond will strengthen with time. - Many of us or our family members may come unglued from the church. As stewards of this church, we mustn t give up. These lives literally depend on a permanent bond with our church. Heeding these directions can give us a good bond that will truly strengthen with time.
