4 Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 1:11-19 BRETHREN, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and 4

And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. 9 MISSION BLANKETS UPDATE Thanks to many generous givers, three boxes of blankets for children have now been sent to Thessaloniki. It is the fourth shipment to Greece, which is experiencing a nationwide increase in orphans. Many of the homeless are arriving from other countries, adding to the existing social & economic problems. As the donations come in, we will continue to pack and ship them to these orphanages. Any up-to-date contact information for a children's home there is most welcomed. We express heartfelt gratitude to every person who has contributed to this outreach by: purchasing blankets, sewing, knitting, prayers, shipping, making a custom donations box for the church hall, handmade crosses and funds for transport. We greatly appreciate the member who personally delivered and paid to send boxes going to one of the orphanages. And special thanks to the church couple who gave a substantial donation, covering the cost of buying fabric for blankets and their shipment to two of the children's homes. Fr. Peter prays over every group of blankets before they leave. We are still in process of boxing the 2nd batch, this one headed for Volos. It is never too early to start researching your topic. Tips and Resources will be available soon! Introduced in 1983, the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival provides Greek Orthodox teenagers the opportunity to write and talk about their faith. 18 Listen to Sunday Sermon Podcasts on Podbean Have you ever gotten home from church and wished you could hear that Sunday's sermon again? Or wished you could share it with a friend or family member who missed it? Of course, you could look at the video archives on our Worship Webcast page, but locating the sermon in a video of a Sunday Liturgy is not always easy. Well, we've come up with a new way to access Sunday s sermons - sermon podcasts! Going forward, audio recordings of Sunday sermons will be available on our Holy Trinity podcast site, holytrinitydallas.podbean.com which is hosted on the Podbean podcasting platform. You can listen to sermons on your computer, and also on your smartphone or tablet. Podbean has free apps for iphones and Android devices; just search for Podbean in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Once you've installed the app, search for "Holy Trinity Greek" to find our podcasts. You can subscribe to our podcasts and receive notifications on your device whenever a new sermon is posted. New Church App We would like to inform our parishioners of a free app called Church Life through which you can easily access our church's online directory from your smartphone or tablet. This app--available for both Android and ios devices--was developed to complement the ACS software system we use for our church office operations. In addition to putting our church directory at your fingertips, the app also allows you to customize your profile in the directory, including uploading a photo of you or your family. (Photo uploads have to go through an approval process, but once approved and added to your profile, other members will be able to see your picture in the directory.) The app is available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Just search for "ACS Church Life" to find it. To use the app, you'll need an Access ACS user i.d. and password. If you currently log in to the Access ACS website ( to make stewardship payments or to look up someone in the online directory, then you are all set to use the Church Life app. Just sign in to the app with the same address and password you use when you log into Access ACS. If you do not currently use the Access ACS website, but would like to be able to use the Church Life app, please contact the church office. They will be happy to help you get started using Access ACS. 18

Yes, they have beautiful cards, but they don t have Orthodox cards! We have cards for every occasion as well as beautiful icon cards that allow you to write your own message. Yes, we have Nativity and Pascha cards, but we also carry cards for name day, birthday, memory eternal, get well, thinking of you and many more! Now I know some of you are thinking, Who sends cards anymore? I use , and anyway, I never have stamps, and our anonymous stamp donor knows it as well. An anonymous parish Yia Yia donated a supply of stamps to be given out with every card sold during the month of October! Was it your Yia Yia? Stop in, pick out a card and put a smile on a loved one s face this October. Remember this fall we are open on Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:45 pm, in addition to our normal Sunday hours. If you come after 5 p.m., please come in at the south (Greek School) door. Please note we will be closing promptly in order to ensure we have time to check you out before the service begins. 20 Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Greetings in the Lord! I pray that all is well with you and yours as we say farewell to another Greek Festival of Dallas and progress into October. Many of you participated in this year s festival by contributing your time, talent and treasure, and it was most appreciated. Thank you! As we are now into the final quarter of this year, here s an update on our stewardship progress. Our total pledge commitments are now almost $916,000. Thank you to those who have made their commitments and completed their pledge cards! As of the end of September, we have fulfilled about 67% of our pledge commitments. September passed us through 75% of the calendar year, so we have dropped a little behind in our fulfillment of pledges. 100% fulfillment of pledges before December would avoid many additional reminders and phone calls at the end of the year, so please check your attached stewardship statement to see if your pledge fulfillment is on track. Your continual support is essential. In addition, please note we currently have an approximate $55,000 gap between what has been pledged and what has been budgeted for this year. We have reinitiated the Close the Gap program that encourages all stewards to increase this year s pledge by just $75. If all stewards were to do this, we would quickly eliminate this shortfall. Please help your church with this small amount of additional support. Progressing further into October, we anxiously await the final accounting from the 60 th Festival. Sadly, we still depend on things beyond our control such as good weather and the good will of the public to determine the fate of this important budget fund raiser. As I have remarked before, when we become a community supported 100% by stewardship the anxiety of October will dissipate. We won t be dependent on festival performance for our everyday needs. Please keep this in mind as you prayerfully consider the end of this year and your stewardship plans for next year. The 2017 Stewardship pledge cards will be arriving soon.
