3 Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 2:4-10 Brethren, God who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazaros in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' 5 Holy Trinity Adult Bible Study The Gospel According the St. John We all long for a life that is pleasing to God. But how do we fill the darkness of our souls with the Light of Christ? How can we quench our thirst with the living waters from a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life? In our study of The Gospel According to St. John, you will experience an opportunity to establish or renew your faith in the One who offers true meaning, true belonging and true life. Among the four living creatures of the Apocalypse, the Gospel according to John has most often been identified with the eagle. St. Augustine likens John to an eagle hovering among Christ s sayings of the more sublime order and in no way descending to earth but on rare occasions. The eagle symbolizes a Gospel so sublime that, as John Chrysostom says, if people actually had the capacity to receive and retain these words, they could no longer exist as mere mortals or remain on the earth. We received word that they have been a tremendous blessing to the kids here reports Chris, Our contact in Haiti (he is Greek) who oversees 5 orphanages. We only NEED 22 MORE to send there.then all 210 orphans will have their own unique blanket. While you start your Christmas shopping, consider picking up a soft throw - or 2 and drop it into the Missions Blankets collection box in the Church hall. It would be wonderful to get these all delivered by Christmas. Also, checks made out to Holy Trinity are much appreciated to cover shipping costs. Just write Mission Blankets in The check memo line. 18 Saints Kosmas and Damianos The Holy Wonderworkers and Unmercenary Physicians Cosmas and Damianos and their mother, Saint Theodota, were natives of Asia Minor (some sources say Mesopotamia). Their pagan father died while they were still quite small children. Their mother raised them in Christian piety. Through her own example and by reading holy books to them, Saint Theodota preserved her children in purity of life according to the command of the Lord, and Cosmas and Damianos grew up into righteous and virtuous men. Trained and skilled as physicians, they received from the Holy Spirit the gift of healing people s illnesses of body and soul by the power of prayer. They even treated animals. With fervent love for both God and neighbor, they never took payment for their services. They strictly observed the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, Freely have you received, freely give. (Mt. 10:8). The fame of Saints Cosmas and Damianos spread throughout all the surrounding region, and people called them unmercenary physicians. Once, the saints were summoned to a grievously ill woman named Palladia, whom all the doctors had refused to treat because of her seemingly hopeless condition. Through faith and through the fervent prayer of the holy brothers, the Lord healed the deadly disease, and Palladia got up from her bed, perfectly healthy and giving praise to God in gratitude for being healed and wishing to give them a small gift. Palladia went quietly to Damianos. She presented him with three eggs and said, Take this small gift in the Name of the Holy Life-Creating Trinity: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Hearing the Name of the Holy Trinity, the unmercenary one did not dare to refuse. When Saint Cosmas learned what had happened, he became very sad, for he thought that his brother had broken their strict vow. On his deathbed, he gave instructions that his brother should not be buried beside him. Saint Damianos also died shortly afterward, and everyone wondered where Saint Damianos grave should be. But through the will of God, a miracle occurred. A camel, which the saints had treated for its wildness, spoke with a human voice saying that they should have no doubts about whether to place Damianos beside Cosmas because Damianos did not accept the eggs from the woman as payment, but out of respect for the Name of God. The venerable relics of the holy brothers were buried together at Thereman (Mesopotamia). 18

Dress Rehearsal is scheduled for December 15 at 4pm in the Sanctuary prior to 5pm Saturday Vespers. 3 year olds through 5th grade: Your children will be practicing hymns in their Sunday School classroom beginning October 28. A list of your child's classroom songs will be sent directly to you via . 6th through 12th grade: We have many opportunities for our GOYAn age students to participate this year!
