4 Epistle Reading Acts of the Apostles 5:12-20 IN THOSE DAYS, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life." John 20:19-31 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe." Eight days later, His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place 4

5 it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to Him: "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. 9 Holy Trinity Centennial Celebration "Missions of the Heart" Expo On June 14 th we will be displaying all the outreach efforts our parish has been involved during its 100 year history as a part of the "Missions of the Heart" Expo. We are asking for your help is making sure we have captured all of these activities. Please send along any descriptions, news articles, photos, video anything that can be displayed during the Expo. Here is the partial list that has been started. We are especially interested in those activities that are earlier in our church history. Please provide additions and edits to this list. 10 Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church History Your help is needed for the Centennial History of our Parish. We are asking each person to fill out a questionnaire and return it to us, as this will help us construct a picture of our parish. Everyone is asked to participate, even if you are new to the parish. History is constantly happening. You can download a questionnaire from the Church s website. Here is the link: Ancestry-Questionaire vCP.pdf. The deadline has been extended, so it is not too late! You can also Mary Sharpley at marydsharpley@gmail.com for a Word version or pdf to be ed to you. Copies are in the Narthex and the table across from the office. We would like photos and stories of past military service of ancestors in Greece, in the U.S., recently, and current service. We are looking for photos and documentation of parish life. We are interested in how our parishioners make their living today and in yesteryear. How our parishioners from the old country became contributing citizens of the U.S. and in the Dallas Metroplex is also a part of the story. If you aren t sure if something you have or a story you have to share is appropriate or needed, then just give us a call. Obviously, we can t publish a telephone book of every single person s story, but we can use all information, documentation, and photos to create an accurate historical record if you will help us. We would like to tell the story of the people of our parish and not just enumerate lists of names and dates. This is not the time to be modest or shy. Let s document our history. We will maintain what we receive in the Parish Historical Archives. This is exciting work, and John Faxon, Bill Karahal, and I are having a wonderful time pulling this information together, and the product of our efforts depends on documentation, photos, and information. 12 Join Philoptochos in our Lenten Philanthropic Project Shoes for Orphan Souls We will be collecting shoes throughout Great Lent to benefit this excellent program which provides new socks and shoes to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and throughout the world. All shoes MUST be new. The greatest need is athletic shoes (adult size 4 through 12). You can drop off shoes and socks at our table in the ALS Community Center following Divine Liturgy each week throughout Lent. A collection box will be in the hall across from the church office. 14 Dear Parishioners, As promised we are updating you on the Greek Food Festival planning. Our plans are moving right along. In our recent meeting, we decided that adding a small coupon booth in the courtyard would help alleviate some of the lines at the main coupon booth, and help speed sales of pastries and drinks in the courtyard. We also decided that the layout that we have used the past few years will remain basically the same. With input from the bar guru's, we are looking at improving and expanding the Taverna concept that we started last year. Our goal, with the Taverna, is to promote Greek wines and to sell more bottles of wine. Our friends at the Houston Festival do a brisk business in bottled wine, and although their Festival is different, we think that we can put our own spin on the concept and be very profitable. We have also taken a hard look at pricing at the bar and have decided to increase prices this year. This will be the first price increase at the bar in a number of years. Our volunteer efforts are paying dividends. Many of you jumped at the chance to win double raffle points for the 10 Reserved Parking Spots to be given away for the Festival. There will be more chances coming up during baking sessions and for early registration to volunteer. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements. We are always looking for new ideas and for new leaders. 16 ATTENTION High School Seniors and College Undergraduates Applications for St. Barbara s Philoptochos Educational Assistance Funds for are now available. These funds are open to students who are: active members and attendants of our Holy Trinity parish currently attending or have applied and been accepted to a two-year or four-year undergraduate program at a public, in state (Texas) college or university or vocational/technical school. One application makes you eligible for either the St. Barbara s chapter Educational Assistance Funds or the Alpha Omega fund created by an anonymous benefactor and administered by Philoptochos. There is one common application for both funds, and the eligibility criteria are the same for both funds. The two highest ranking applicants will receive the Alpha Omega award and the next two highest ranking applicants will receive the St. Barbara s Philoptochos award. 20 What Comes After Easter? By Harry Yianitsas, Stewardship Chairman Christ is Risen! We exuberantly proclaim this to one another in celebration of Pascha. In fact, we will proclaim this for several weeks from now, reminding ourselves of Christ s sacrifice for us. So, let s see what comes after Pascha. Hmmm. Well, there s Shopping for spring clothes San Jacinto Day Spring show practice Senior prom Ballet recitals Piano recitals Cinco de Mayo Mother s Day College/High School graduation Graduation Parties Weddings Baptisms End of school parties Memorial Day Prepping for summer camp Wow, No wonder we feel so busy! What about this additional list of things that follow Pascha Which list are we thinking about? Without a doubt, there are many things that follow Pascha. Sometimes, it s way too easy to simply zip through Pascha and just move on to the next thing. Let s try to slow down a bit and take time as Christ s stewards to let Pascha linger a bit this year. Instead of thinking What s next?, let s try to live in the moment that God has given us. Don t throw away the now for the next. Good stewards value and use every moment they have been given.
