If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. 8 Message from the Parish Council Holy Trinity has a new website! The Parish Council is excited to unveil our new Holy Trinity website! Please go to and have a look! We hope you like it and make it your go-to resource for information about our church. Some of the features we think you will particularly appreciate are: A modern, responsive design that looks good on a wide range of devices. A front-page Parish News column with the latest information on our activities and events. More and richer content about the Orthodox Church, for personal study and to further our church s evangelical mission. A Photo Gallery to preserve and share memories of past festivals, holidays, and other events. An Online Pledge Card where you can make your stewardship commitment each year. The new website has been in the works for quite some time. The project began under Chris Canellos s presidency, and Jim Chappel did much of the early exploratory work. We are also very grateful to the Archdiocese s Department of Internet Ministries the new site was built using Archdiocese tools and is being hosted on Archdiocese servers, all at minimal cost. 10 IMPORTANT PARISH ANNOUNCEMENT Holy Trinity Men s Ministry Iron sharpens iron, and a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17 Holy Trinity has initiated a new ministry, the Men s Ministry program, a spiritual community of men of Holy Trinity. Men have gender related needs and responsibilities that are best developed and nurtured in context with other men. Our Men s Ministry program will provide Christ-centered, spiritual environments and programs unique to men, which will encourage them to help one another to more strongly realize their Orthodox Christian responsibilities as husbands, fathers and friends. There will be retreats, small group settings, service opportunities and sporting activities that will promote open, trustful and supporting environments for men to bond and address their unique issues in today s society. Men, whether married or single, will find this Ministry a great opportunity to bond with other men and to realize your full potential as Orthodox Christians. The first retreat will take place at Holy Trinity during Great Lent on Saturday, April 16, Please place that date on your calendars. More specific information will be forthcoming. 12 MISSION BLANKETS INCREDIBLE!! You all donated so many blankets since Thanksgiving that we have more than enough for the next orphanage. So while we are working out the logistics of sending packages to the Orthodox Orphanage in Sierra Leone, West Africa, there is a shipment being packed for another Orthodox Children's Home in northwest Mexico. It is an orphanage facing the Pacific Ocean, and houses 22 boys. Fr. Alaniz in Anjara, Jordan gave us a photo of their home at Christmas, thanking everyone for the gifts to his children. The blankets arrived in time. And to all of you who gave of your time, talent & treasure for these children, thanks so very much. This includes little handmade crosses for each blanket. Our collection box is in the hall of the Community Center across from the office. All we can say now, is just keep doing what you're doing!" It is wonderful!!! Certificate of Attainment in Modern Greek The examination for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek is organized by the Center for the Greek Language of the Aristotelian University of Greece by order of the Greek Ministry of Education. The examination includes both oral and written sections and is available for six different levels of difficulty. 20 Traveling Today? By Harry Yianitsas, 2016 Stewardship Chairman We all travel somewhere, someplace. We travel for business. We travel for leisure. We take long trips. We take short trips. However far we go, or no matter the reason, we commonly carry the same essential items along. Let s take a look at a typical packing list: Clothes to protect us from the elements as well as show off our style. Reading material - to keep us company as we pass the time. Sunglasses - protect our eyes or just look cool. Camera - to capture and share the experience of our journey. Mobile Phone - for those important calls/ communications. Cash or Credit Cards - Nothing s free on any trip. Now, what about the Lenten journey that is upon us? What essentials are we planning to take on that trip? Well, the list has some similarities to the above. Let s see how we could pack for Lent: Clothes - We need spiritual as well as physical protection. Do we put on the spiritual armor of Christ as we go into the world? Is our physical dress an example to others of our Christianity? Reading Material - Are we reading the Bible and other Christian inspirational texts, or are we just content to read the latest social media update? Are we nurturing the spirit through the mind? Someone once said that reading is fertilizer for the brain. But what are we fertilizing, the grass, or the weeds? Sunglasses No doubt we need to protect our eyes. What kind of images do we imprint on our minds? Camera Do we take the time and effort to cherish the moment that adds meaning to our spiritual journey, or simply go through the motions and soon forget about the experience. Take a look at the photos you save. Are they photos of cherished experiences, or just a bunch of narcissistic selfies? What kind of images are we storing on our phones and hard drives? How do we share our experience of Lent; with love and humility, or small talk and chatter? Mobile Phone - How much communicating are we doing with God? You know, He has unlimited calling, free long distance, and sees what s on Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook before anyone! Did you remember to share your contact info with Him so He can speak to you, or is He on your blocked call list? Are you following Him, because He has always been following you! Cash or Credit Cards As long as we live in this world, few things will be free, so we must support the needs of His church through Stewardship. Otherwise, our Lenten journey would just be a cheap vacation instead of a meaningful spiritual experience. May you have a blessed Lenten journey! The new Stewardship Policy asks ALL stewards to complete a new card for In addition, please consider fulfilling your pledge month by month or more frequently. Our church budget runs much more smoothly when pledges come in evenly throughout the year.
