Lent begins February 14, Ash Wednesday. Let us give prayerful consideration as to what we need to do as we enter this holy season. MASS WITH DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES: Ash Wednesday, February 14: 6:30 a.m., 8:15 a.m., and 6:45 p.m. STATIONS OF THE CROSS AND SOUP SUPPERS: Stations of the Cross will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on the following Wednesdays of Lent: February 21, 28, March 7, and 14. A light soup supper will follow. Please note that there will be no Stations of the Cross and soup supper on Wednesday, March 21 due to the Sacrament of Confirmation being conferred here at St. Agnes. OPERATION RICE BOWL : Lenten rice bowls for Operation Rice Bowl, sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, can be found in a special basket near the bulletin board in the church gathering space. A good way to take up the practice of almsgiving this Lent! KEEPING THE SEASONS: Each week for the Lent/Easter Seasons a Keeping the Seasons handout from Liturgy Training Publications will be found in special magazine holders near the bulletin containers in the church gathering space. This is a handy prayer/custom/and prayer sheet to help with our reflections and practices during these holy seasons of renewal in the Lord. LITTLE BLACK BOOK : A popular Lenten devotional booklet printed annually by the Diocese of Saginaw (Michigan). These booklets can be found in special baskets in the church gathering space. LENTEN REGULATIONS: The season of Lent begins this year on Ash Wednesday, February 14, and ends just prior to the evening Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, March 29, when the Paschal Triduum begins. Lent is the principal penitential season in the Church year. All of the Christian faithful are urged to develop and maintain a voluntary program of self-denial (in addition to the Lenten regulations which follow), serious prayer, and the performing of deeds of charity and mercy, including the giving of alms. Lenten regulations: 1. Abstinence: Everyone 14 years of age and over is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent. 2. Fast: Everyone 18 years of age and under 59 is required to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these two days of fast and abstinence, only one full meatless meal is permitted. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength may be taken according to each person s needs, but together these two meals should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids (including milk and fruit juices) are allowed. REST IN PEACE Please keep in your prayers Paul Lang of our parish who died recently. May he know the fullness of joy that the Risen Lord desires to share with us. Please Note: The Parish Office will be closed, Wednesday, February 14. BAPTISM CLASS: The Baptism Class is required for all parents who have not taken a class before, although all parents are urged to attend. The next class will be on February 15, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Parents may take the class prior to the birth of their child. To register, call the Parish Office at

We will be accepting nominations through March 15, Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Soon our diocese will be taking up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe (CCEE). During the time of communist reign in many countries, practicing the faith became illegal, church buildings were confiscated, and the people were forced to hide and secretly share the truths of the Gospel. After decades of institutional oppression and persecution, Catholics still struggle to rebuild not only their physical places of worship but also their church ministries and communities. With your support of this collection, the Church is providing resources to these communities to breathe new life into the faith once again. The country of Albania is nestled north of Greece on the Adriatic Sea. This small country suffered greatly under communist rule. In the capital of Tirana, located in the middle of the country, the Church is continuing to restore not only its structures but also the spirituality of the faithful after years of oppression. In 1996 the congregation of sisters known as the Company of Mary Our Lady founded a kindergarten, the first Catholic school in the entire capital city. Since then, they have opened a school for grades 1-9 and a daily activity center for children. The sisters are now serving over 700 children daily from all different backgrounds, faiths and ethnic groups. With your support of CCEE, these sisters will be able to make critical repairs to their buildings to continue their ministry. Your generosity helps the sisters to continue teaching children and equips the congregation to provide a space to build peaceful communities. Your donations make a difference for those still struggling in the aftermath of communist rule. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection this year or if you can increase your contribution. For more information about the collection and who it supports, visit Thank you for your help to restore the Church and build the future in Central and Eastern Europe. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki Bishop of Springfield in Illinois

It was founded by Brother Roger who embraced a vision of a contemplative spiritual reconciliation between the various branches of the Christian faith. In this time of worldly turmoil, this is an opportunity to come together to foster peace and reconciliation, with meditative common prayer as the conduit. May we learn to pray together in larger community and seek to truly know and love our neighbors.
