Donations this Lenten Season given during our suppers will go to the support of the Pregnancy Care Center of Springfield. Lenten Penance Services: As we approach Easter, there are ample opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of reconciliation. Easter Sunday, April 24, Masses at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Please note: There are no morning Masses on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, April 21 & 22, and there is no 4:30 p.m. Mass on Holy Saturday, April 23. Next weekend, April 9-10, is our regular collection for the Holy Family Food Pantry. Please bring your donations to the Gathering Space. Some of the most needed items are: pancake mix & syrup, cereal & poptarts, jelly, crackers, jello & pudding mixes, cake & brownie mixes, boxed potatoes, muffin mix, paper towels, shampoo & conditioner. 3 3rd 4th SUNDAY OF LENT 3 March April 3, 27, K Shamrock Shuffle: A 5K walk/run/virtual run to benefit St. Patrick Catholic School will be held Saturday, April 16, 10:00 a.m. at Southwind Park. Special Guest Runner: Bishop Thomas John Paprocki. Fee is $30. Registration forms are on the table in gathering space. Celebrate Faith and Earth Day: Enjoy dinner, learn the deep connection between ecology and the Paschal Mystery, experience the new universe story through a cosmic walk, and hear Maurice Lange, Director of Eco-justice in St. Louis on Thursday evening, April 14 at Chiara Center in Springfield. Truly, each time we remember the Paschal Mystery we make present that love which birthed the universe. Dinner is at 6 PM. $20 per person or $35 per couple. Reservations required, call Spring Luncheon: The Pregnancy Care Center of Springfield will hold its Annual Spring Luncheon on Monday, April 11 at the Northfield Center. Activities include a fashion show, silent auction and bake sale. Evening of Recollection: All Why Catholic? participants, as well as other interested parishioners, are welcome to an Evening of Recollection entitled Living the Beatitudes to be presented by Sr. Honora Nolte, O.P. of Renew International. There are two opportunities to participate in our area: Wednesday, April 6, 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Christ the King Parish, or Friday, April 8, 6:00-8:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Chatham. You do not need to be in a Why Catholic? group to attend. Please call the St. Agnes parish office at to register. Revised Roman Missal: There will be a presentation on the revisions to the Mass that will begin the 1st Sunday of Advent this year on Wed., April 6 at St. Frances Cabrini Parish Center. Individual confessions at 5:30 p.m., soup supper at 6:00, presentation at 6:30. The presentation will explore the three major reasons for the new translation, analysis of some specific changes, and timeline for implementation. There will also be a Q & A session with Fr. Richard Chiola. For more info, call St. Agnes Bereavement Support Group will have its next meeting on Thursday, April 7, 10:00 a.m. in the Rectory Conference Room. The purpose of this group is to give love and support through prayer, spiritual readings, tapes, etc., to those who are coping with the grief associated with the loss of a loved one. The Bereavement Group is open to anyone who has suffered a loss, no matter how long ago that loss was. The Group will meet on the first and third Thursday of each month. For information, call Kitty at An all-you-can-eat Breakfast Buffet will be held on Sunday, April 10 from 8 am until noon at the Knights of Columbus Council 364. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and free for kids ages five and under. All proceeds will benefit MERCY Communities of Springfield. 5 3rd 4th SUNDAY OF LENT 5 March April 3, 27, Young at Heart (YAH) Events Our first Health Fair was a great success with over 20 exhibits and many positive comments from participants about the helpful information they received. Thanks to Carrie Becker and Bev Dillon for their hard work and great organization and all who helped: Barb Kern, Sue Hartl, Jane Snyder, Bill Snyder, Bill Becker, Donna Erwin, Ken and Mary Lou Guernsey, Ralph Brookens and Cliff Erwin. Special thanks to Les Pope for setting up the hall for the event, Sr. Corde for her input and Fr. Bob and Deacon Roy for their encouragement throughout the process. As an outgrowth of the Health Fair, we will have our first Blood Drive on Monday, May 9. Bev Dillon is coordinating this event. Watch the bulletin for more details. Our next planning meeting will be held in mid-april to discuss upcoming activities for the summer and fall; date and more details in next weekend's bulletin. All are welcome. Correction: Lenten Mission - Mon, April 4 through THURSDAY, April 7 at 7 p.m.: Please join us for 4 evenings of inspiring talks as Father Tom Sullivan C.P.M., a member of the Congregation of the Fathers of Mercy & friend of Mother Teresa's leads this mission at Blessed Sacrament Church. During the mission Father will encourage and challenge you to make a stronger, deeper commitment to Christ, His Church and the Sacraments. Among the topics he will speak on are: the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Virgin Mary, the Mercy of God, the Ten Commandments, and the Angels and Saints. A LETTER FROM THE BISHOP (Catholic Relief Services Collection) Dear Friends in Christ, In many ways, families are the heart of our communities. When families are in distress, are separated, or are otherwise challenged, our Church reaches out. And it does so whether those families are across the street or halfway around the globe. For example, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC) program called National Pro Bono Project for Children matches unaccompanied immigrant children with legal service providers. These children are the most vulnerable migrants: they are usually without resources and are forced to navigate complex legal proceedings without representation. As another example, the Department of Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops provides coordination, training, funding and monitoring to experts who provide specialized assistance to victims of human trafficking in the United States. And in its initial response to the earthquakes in Haiti, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) distributed food to nearly 900,000 people. Currently, CRS is providing food to more than 90,000 students in more than 270 schools, as well as monthly food rations to more than 100 orphanages and child care centers in Port-au-Prince. CLINIC, MRS, and CRS are just three of the six worldwide Catholic relief agencies funded by the Catholic Relief Services collection. Each agency provides vital assistance, from pastoral support to humanitarian aid, all over the world. The work being supported through the Catholic Relief Services collection prioritizes family by protecting children, fighting for family reunification and supporting the life and dignity of each human person. Each organization supported by this collection sees Jesus in disguise. How will you help? Please be generous in the Catholic Relief Services collection. Your support will truly make a difference.
