2 NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST 2 June 24, 2012 RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The usual way by which an unbaptized person (those seven years of age and above) becomes a full, participating member of the Catholic Church is through a faith formation process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and the reception of the sacraments of initiation at Easter. Persons who have been baptized in another Christian church and who wish to become a member of the Catholic Church are also encouraged to participate in the RCIA before receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. We are now planning for those who want to inquire about the process or simply find out what RCIA is all about. If you know of someone interested, please call the Parish office at Our RCIA sessions will begin in September. Wedding Congratulations: Prayerful best wishes accompany Kameron Wilson and Terren Drury who were married last Saturday, June 16, at St. Agnes. May God bless them in their love for one another! GREETERS, JULY 4:30 Barb Kern 8:00 Mike & Ann LaBonte 9:30 Maria Rutter Family BAPTISM We welcome into the Body of Christ, the Church, COHEN HARPER ECK who was recently baptized. May the Light of Christ shine brightly in and through him! BAPTISM CLASS The Baptism Class is required for all parents who have not taken a class before, although all parents are urged to attend. The next class will be on June 27, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Gathering Space of the Church. Parents may take the class prior to the birth of their child. Please call the Church Office to register. A Letter from the Bishop (Peter s Pence Collection) Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: In many places around the globe, the Church struggles to be a visible sign of Christ s peace: in poor dioceses where many depend on the Church for social and pastoral support; in regions where Catholics are persecuted and must be helped discreetly; in nations overloaded with refugees or victims of war and natural disasters. The Peter s Pence collection often provides peace they might not otherwise know. What peace will you give with your stewardship today? The Peter s Pence collection gives us the opportunity to extend a sign of peace to the body of Christ around the world. Our gifts to this annual collection help the Holy Father support victims of disaster, war and oppression and others in urgent need of assistance. Pope Benedict uses the Peter s Pence collection to strengthen dioceses, religious orders and struggling communities of faith when they need it most. For many who must struggle to survive, the peace of Christ is encountered through the collection and the work of the Holy Father. Please give generously to the collection and know that, in doing so, you truly cast the peace of Christ upon the world. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki Bishop of Springfield in Illinois Mass of Remembrance to honor all United States Veterans will be held July 4, 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, south of Lincoln s Tomb. Sponsored by the Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916 and Staab Funeral Home. Please bring lawn chairs for your comfort. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Oak Ridge Cemetery Chapel.
