John 15:17 H Our Weekly Prayer 5th June 2015 Week 8 Term This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Every Mass is a commemoration of Jesus Last Supper and a proclamation and participation on this mystery. Because we can sometimes get lost in the routine each Sunday, the feast of Corpus Christi helps us focus once again on what we are called to do at Mass. The Feast of Corpus Christi reminds us that at every Mass, we are called to: CELEBRATE what we believe. We express our faith in the risen Christ, who gave his life for us out of love. LIVE what we believe. We give witness to the risen Christ by our way of life. BECOME what we receive. So how do we explain this concept to children? It can be a little bit like saying, Do as I say, not as I do. If we have the courage to be really honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our own actions (or non-action), it is not difficult to admit that we are actually far from knowing peace and living in peace. It has been written that, Peace is not the absence of conflict, but rather the ability to cope with it, to open our hearts to listening, giving respect to each side in an attempt to understand the conflict and then to, find resolution that is good for both. This can be especially hard when we are tired an under stress. Teachers have been busy writing about your child s progress over the first semester. Much thought goes into appropriate assessments for student learning. The students are finishing up portfolio items. These will be collected and put into their folder for next term s parent interviews. Reports will be sent home on Wednesday in the last week of term. As predicted, our Athletics Carnival was another outstanding success. We started the day with our races. The children from ELC had some stiff competition from Harold (from the Life Education Van), who paid us a special visit for the morning. After recess the students from Early Childhood took part in a variety of tabloid activities. Some events for our older children needed to be finalised early this week and we will be able to announce the winning house this Friday at assembly. Those older students will then go on to represent Sacred Heart at the PARRS Track and Field event at Fred s pass on Wednesday in Week Nine. Also coming up, we will celebrate our Sacred Heart Day Eucharist with Bishop Eugene on Thursday 11 th June at 9:00 in the church. We will have our Sacred Heart Day activities on Friday the 12 th of June. You are most welcome to join us for both of these events. First Communion will be held over the weekend of the 13 th and 14 th of June. Please keep these children in your prayers as they continue their preparation for the reception of this most important sacrament. Finally, Mr Luck should have an easy day on Friday with Phoebe Richards and Tyreese Lew Fat running the school as Student Principal s for a Day. Student Principal s for a Day is a national initiative aimed at developing leadership skills for all senior children. Phoebe and Tyreese will accompany Mr Luck for the day and undertake a range of principal duties including assembly, meetings and playground duty. Their top five plans for Sacred Heart are included in this week s newsletter. Cate Cockayne has accepted an 18 month appointment to the Catholic Education Office as an Inclusion Support Advisor. Cate is a longtime staff member and member of our Leadership Team. We are also pleased to announce the following staff changes for Term Three: Anne Marie Geraghty will take Room One next term replacing Deirdre Wood.. Anne Marie is from Ireland and worked with Dee Shanley in Sydney. Anna Priest who is well known to our school will take Room Eight from the beginning of Term Three when Lucy Hyndman takes leave to welcome her first child. Our Sacred Heart Day Lunch Next Friday for our Sacred Heart Day celebrations the Canteen will be closed and our, School Leaders, SRC and Year 6 students will be holding a fundraising sausage sizzle for lunch, raising funds for Nepal. Sausages have been generously donated by Lia Finocchiaro MLA (Member for Drysdale) and will be sold for $2.00 each Principal For A Day Our Principals for a Day have some changes they would make if the REALLY were the Principal: TYREESE PHOEBE 10 minutes more at recess Gymnastics with mats on the oval 5 minutes more at lunch Have sporting competitions Disco during school time Sale at canteen : 20cent discount on all items Red licorice for sale at canteen Allow casual clothes day Have a teachers act at assembly each term Slushies and licorice at canteen

7 Fundraiser for NEPAL FRIED RICE FUNDRAISER Each Wednesday in Weeks 7,8,9 and 10 Home Made Fried Rice will be sold at the Canteen for $4, with profits going to our fundraising for the communities in Nepal. St Vincent de Paul Society Our Lady Help of Christians has an active Conference of the St Vincent De Paul Society (SVDP) operating in Palmerston. The SVDP group consists of ORDINARY everyday People who give freely of their time and energy to assist other human beings who for one reason or another are doing it tough and through their Ministry are making an EXTRAORDINARY difference in the lives of those whom they visit and provide assistance to, week in and week out. The Our Lady Help of Christians Conference is recruiting additional members to join us in this most satisfying work and engage in a grass roots and practical demonstration of faith in action. ALL you need is a COMPASSIONATE HEART and a GENEROUS SPIRIT!
