Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter. Father, we ask you to send the Holy Spirit into our lives. Open our ears to hear what you are saying. Open our eyes to see the needs of people around us. Open our hands to do our work well. Open our lips to tell others the Good News Open our minds to discover new truths Open our hearts to love you and all people. Being able to ask for and to receive forgiveness is most powerful and is essential to maintaining a healthy mind and spirit. To ask forgiveness requires us to acknowledge when we have been less than we could have been and to have the courage to bring that to God and to others. Receiving true forgiveness can free us of years of self-doubt and guilt. Being able to forgive others can also allow us to deal with an incident or time of great pain. Neither asking for or offering forgiveness is easy. However, forgiveness and the sacrament of Reconciliation leads us to a renewed commitment to be the sort of people God calls us to be. It is reassuring to know that this forgiveness is unconditionally offered to us each minute of the day through Jesus Christ. We hope that as a school community we have the courage to accept responsibility for the times we have not lived our call and the compassion to forgive others as we are forgiven. Congratulations to our children who received this sacrament last night and we continue to pray for them as they prepare to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist next month. The much spoken about NAPLAN tests are being held this week for our year three and five children. It is never easy to judge what our results will be but it has been pleasing to hear our children leave the tests feeling confident that they had the knowledge and skills to do their best. NAPLAN is controversial for many reasons not least of which is the pressure it places on schools and young children. Our classes have spent an appropriate amount of time preparing children for the tests so it is great to see this hard work pay. We will now wait until we receive individual and school data which will be published in Term Three. Next Friday is our annual Athletics Carnival. Our carnival is structured to provide opportunities for each child to challenge and enjoy themselves regardless of their sporting gifts. In addition to the regular Olympic style events, children will also be involved in a range of less formal activities that encourage team work and participation. Children who excel in the formal sporting events held on the day and in PE classes this week and next will be invited to be part of our team to represent Sacred Heart at the district PARCS carnival later in the term. As with any Sacred Heart event, parents, families and friends are most welcome to join us next Friday. It has become a wonderful tradition at Sacred Heart to bring a chair and cheer on our children as they race past. Also if you are able give an hour or two to help us run the carnival it would be most appreciated. The jobs are fairly easy and we will make sure there is someone with you who has done the job before. If you can offer some time, please leave your name with Zoe in the office. On Monday the 27 th of May we will celebrate the Feast of Mary Help of Christians (the patron of our parish) with a whole school mass. We are excited that our Bishop, Bishop Eugene and our Priest, Fr Tom will both celebrate the mass with us. We are blessed to have Bishop Eugene and Fr Tom ministering in our parish and school. After mass parents, families and friends are invited to join us in the staffroom for morning tea. May we all have the courage to ask for forgiveness this week. 5 Sacrament of Reconciliation We pray for these students from our school who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish last night. We continue to keep them in our prayers as they prepare for First Eucharist on June 16th. Anika Kamarudin, Felicity Lamberton. New Baby Congratulations Congratulations to Amelia Gordon on the birth of her new baby sister, Ella Grace, on Sunday. Casual Bus Driver Required Our Bus Driver, Mr Alchin, will enjoy some well-earned long service leave during term three. We are seeking a suitably licensed bus driver to replace him during this time. There is a possibility of combining this position with a casual Groundsman position by negotiation. Excursion to the Museum and Botanical Gardens Some comments about the excursion from the children that attended. Samuel: I liked the pig nosed turtle! Marcus: We found a snake skin at the gardens. Koni: I liked the pig nosed turtle. Merlene: We went on the bus to the Palmerston Library and then the restaurant. I had fish and chips with sweet chilli. I love sweet chilli! It was a good day! Chenille: I was very excited to see the paintings in the Museum that were painted by my cousins from Maningrida! Kim-Lee: There was a crocodile there called Sweet Heart. Kevin:: I liked rolling down the hill and the fountain and the playground. Presley: For Lunch we went to a restaurant and we had Fish and Chips and it was at Palmerston Library and it was a fun day. Tory: In the bus we saw a cool car. Rosie: We went to the Museum and we saw Barramundi and the pig nosed turtle, the short neck turtle and the long neck turtle. Jaylene: Yesterday we went to the Botanical Gardens and we had a play at the playground. Mrs Pawley and Mrs Jacobs took photos of us on top of the tree house. We rolled down a big hill and we also saw a snake skin. Kellysha: For Lunch I had a sweet chilli and chicken wrap. The other people had fish and chips and Mrs Jacobs and Koni had wedges. In the Library, me and Jaylene played Connect 4. When we were at the Museum we went to Cyclone Tracey and then we saw Chenille s family s relatives artwork. It was so so good. Chenille was happy and so was Kim-Lee. Mathius: I loved getting my photo taken.
