Mr Le is one of the missing divers off Camp Schanck last Saturday. We keep him and all the Le family especially Declan (Prep), Kayla (Year 5/6) and Dylan (Year 3/4) in our prayers as they go through this difficult time in their life. Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, proud of their Catholic tradition, celebrate Catholic Education Week each year. Catholic Education Week will be celebrated between March The theme will be Seek God with all your heart'. As part of Catholic Education week we have placed an advertisement in the Brimbank Leader to highlight our Catholic community to all in the area. Mrs Barone and myself will attend St. Patrick s Cathedral with the School Captains and SRC students next Tuesday. The Mass will be attended by more than 2,000 students from 329 Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Led by Celtic Irish Pipers, each school will proudly carry their banner in a procession through the cathedral at the start of the Mass.

2 EMERGENCY DRILL Last Thursday we had our emergency drill practice. It was very successful as all children and staff were evacuated in good time and everyone was accounted for! Each term we will have a different type of emergency drill eg internal, during lunchtime etc. INTERNET USAGE Please remember to check your child s accounts regularly to ensure that what your child is doing on-line is appropriate. Parents have the right to check their child s accounts and if a child questions you your response needs to be Why can t I look? FAMILY UPDATE SHEETS Family update summary sheets have been sent home, please check the information and update any changes. These then need to be sent back to school ASAP (even if there are no changes!)

3 BUDDIES All classes at Resurrection School have a buddy class. This allows for children to get to know children they would not normally meet with and complete a range of activities together. The photos below show children completing some activities with their buddy. FUNDRAISING GROUP On Wednesday 18 th March we are inviting parents to attend our Fundraising meeting at 9.00am. We hope many parents can to attend this meeting We require parents to come and assist us plan our upcoming Easter fundraising and Mother s Day stall. Please come along and join in the discussions and meet other parents!! We need YOUR support for a great range of activities to be organised for our children and families. DONATIONS We are currently seeking second hand uniform donations, including school shoes that are in good condition. If you are able to assist with this request could you please leave the donation items at the school office.

4 EASTER RAFFLE- CASUAL CLOTHES On Monday 16 th March children are able to come to school in casual clothes and donate an Easter egg, chocolates, soft toy or basket. These will be used for our Easter egg raffle. Each year we create in excess of 40 baskets. Raffle tickets were sent home yesterday. EASTER BASKETS CREATION VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED Parents are invited to help create the Easter baskets on Wednesday 18 th March at 9.00am. Easter Raffle will be drawn on Monday 23rd March at Assembly. All parents are welcome SCHOOL PHOTO DAY MONDAY 23RD MARCH School photo information has been sent home with your child. Please place orders before Monday 23 rd March either online or send your envelope with payment with your child to school. If ordering online, there is no need to return the envelope to school. Sibling envelopes are now available from the school office. Please ensure all students are in FULL SUMMER UNIFORM ONLY on the school photo day (NO RUNNERS). IN-SERVICE DAYS Our next school closure day will be on Thursday 19 th March. Term 2 school closure day will be on Monday 20 th April. No school for children on these days. SHOPPING BAGS SHOPPING BAGS Prayer, Self-denial, and Helping others are the hallmarks of Lent. At Resurrection school each class has a green shopping bag with our label. The idea is that when you grocery shop during Lent you buy an additional item (or one less item for yourself) and send it to school with your child to place it in the bag. At the Mass of the Lord's Supper (Holy Thursday, 2 nd April) the bags with the non-perishable groceries will be blessed and passed on to our St Vincent Group, who will in turn distribute the groceries to those who are needy in our community.

5 END OF TERM On the last day of Term (Friday 27th March) all children finish at 2.15pm. PRAYER Lord Jesus, man of Galilee, who heard the cry of the hungry open our eyes to the needs of your people and our hearts to respond, so that the abundant gifts of the earth may be shared more fairly. 7 WELLBEING NEWS National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence The fifth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence will be held on Friday, 20 March This annual day provides a focus for all schools to say Bullying. No Way! and to strengthen their existing everyday messages that bullying and violence at school are not okay at any time. Resurrection will once again take part in this action day. Students will meet and have lunch together on the oval with their buddies (weather permitting). They will also work with their buddies in creating messages to take a stance against bullying. What is bullying? What is bullying (including online bullying)? Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bullying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious or hidden. Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Some conflicts between children are a normal part of growing up and are to be expected. Single incidents and conflicts or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not considered bullying, even though they may be upsetting and need to be resolved. Bullying can happen: face-to-face (e.g. pushing, tripping, name-calling) at a distance (e.g. spreading rumours, excluding someone) through information and communications technologies (e.g. use of SMS, , chat rooms). Identifying bullying can sometimes be difficult. Bullying is often conducted out of sight of teachers and children may be reluctant to report bullying. Online bullying (sometimes called cyberbullying) is bullying carried out through the internet or mobile devices. Children who are bullied online are also often bullied face-to-face. Examples of online bullying include: repeated hang up calls sending insulting or threatening text messages publishing someone's personal or embarrassing information online creating hate sites or starting social exclusion campaigns on social networking sites. Online bullying is one potential cybersafety issue for children when they use computers and mobile phones.

8 PARISH NEWS Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) We must keep in mind, however that we are constantly being called to grow. Each culture and social group needs purification and growth. In the case of the popular cultures of Catholic peoples, we can see deficiencies which need to be healed by the Gospel: machismo, alcoholism, domestic violence, low Mass attendance, fatalistic or superstitious notions which lead to sorcery, and the like. Popular piety itself can be a starting point for the healing and liberation from these deficiencies. #69 New Office Hours Commencing Saturday 20 March the Parish Office will close at 12.30pm each Saturday. Office hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am 12.30pm; 1.30pm 6pm (closed for lunch ), Saturday & Sunday 8.30am 12.30pm Easter Big Bulletin Copy for the Easter Big Bulletin is due by Friday 20 February. Send your articles to bulletin.kingspark@cam.org.au Reconciliation 2 nd Rite The 2 nd Rite of Reconciliation will be celebrated on the Tuesday of Holy Week; 31 March commencing at 7.15pm. At the moment there are 16 priests coming. The service will be led by Fr Ian Ranson Parish Priest of the Newport Parish. Palm Sunday Early Start Please note that all Palm Sunday Masses (including Saturday night) will begin 10 minutes early with the blessing of the palms and procession taking place outside. This will mean that gate number 1 will be closed at approximately four minutes before the normal starting time of Mass. Should you arrive at this time please park via gate number 3 or the Movelle car park. Gate 3 will be closed until four minutes before the normal starting time of Mass. Sold Out Apologies to all the parishioners who came to last Sunday s 10.30am who missed out on the Parish Bulletin. We did print the usual number but there were many more people at both the 6pm and 10.30am Masses than usually participate; surprising because it was also a long weekend. Should you ever miss out on a bulletin, go to our web site and click on Bulletin. We can also send you an e-bulletin every Friday; simply your request to kingspark@cam.org.au Don t forget we are on Facebook. Sacraments Understanding the Signs & Symbols Fr Frank O Loughlin gave a talk last November about the signs and symbols of the Sacraments. His talk was very well received. He is coming again on Tuesday 21 April at 7pm. This is a real opportunity for anyone (doesn t that mean everyone) who would like to deepen their understanding of the Sacraments with a particular focus on the Eucharist. It is a must for any parent with Sacramental age children. Drive Carefully A reminder to drive carefully all the time and this includes in out car park. Remember that about 18 months ago an elderly lady was killed in a Melbourne church car park. Would You Like to be a Mass Overseer? The role of the Mass Overseer is many and varied and vitally important. If you would like to know more about the role of the Overseer and perhaps join a roster please speak to one of the Mass Overseers or Fr Noel. Palm Branches If you can supply small or large palm branches for Passion (Palm Sunday) 29 March, would you kindly advise the Parish Office. Ministry Guidelines Our 2015 ministry guidelines have been ed to the respective ministers. If you did not receive your copy kindly pick one up from the Welcome Desk or Parish Office. Funerals Help Needed Would you be available to run the data projection at funerals? If you don t know how, you can be trained. It would be good to get 3 or 4 parishioners on a roster to help in this most important ministry. Holy Thursday Part of our liturgy at the Mass of the Lord s Supper (Holy Thursday night) is the washing of feet; remembering the account of the Last Supper in John s Gospel.
