All Australians are invited to participate in our nation s reconciliation journey. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of us all as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non- Indigenous peoples. The theme for NRW 2016 is Our History, Our Story, Our Future, which asks all Australians to reflect on our national identity, and the place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and rights in our nation s story. Almighty and loving God, you who created all people in your image, lead us to seek your compassion as we listen to the stories of our past. You gave your only Son, Jesus, who died and rose again so that sins will be forgiven. We place before you the pain and anguish of dispossession of land, language, lore, culture and family kinship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have experienced. We live in faith that all people will rise from the depths of despair and hopelessness. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families have endured the pain and loss of loved ones, through the separation of children from their families. We are sorry and ask Your forgiveness. Touch the hearts of the broken, homeless and inflicted and heal their spirits. In your mercy and compassion walk with us as we continue our journey of healing to create a future that is just and equitable. Lord, you are our hope. Amen. WALKER LEARNING APPRIOACH SAVE THE DATE The Walker Learning Approach is an integral part of our teaching and learning at our school. We are proud to offer a contemporary education which reflects best practice. On Thursday June 16 th at 7pm we will have a quest speaker from the Early Life Foundations who will give a parent symposium on the Walker Learning Approach. We held one of these evenings back in 2012 and it proved to be very beneficial for all who attended. I ask all parents to save this date in their diary and to make plans to attend. An official invitation will be sent out to all parents in the coming days. ENVIRONMENTAL DAY AT PPS This Friday our school will be going to the Peterborough Primary School to participate in Environmental Day. They students will be engaged in a number of group activities throughout the day. Some students will be walking up to PPS while the younger students may be able to catch the CAP bus. There will be a sausage sizzle available for lunch ($1.50 for a sausage on bread). Students will need to bring their own recess, water bottle (and lunch if they do not wish to

2 have a sausage). The canteen will be open during the day to serve tea and coffee for adults parents/caregivers are most welcome for the entire event or just to pop in throughout the day. We look forward to joining our friends at PPS for a fun day. P&F FUNDRAISER The Parents and Friends Committee recently decided on an exciting fundraiser for this term. They will be hosting a Krispy Kreme fundraising campaign for the remainder of this term. In this week s newsletter folder you will find order forms. They are due to be return the front office by Monday 27 th June. Orders will be delivered on Wednesday 6th July. I hope you support this great initiative by our very committed P&F Committee! SENDING HOME STUDENT WORK Today you will find a work sample from your child/children in your newsletter folder. Please read the accompanying note carefully as it will guide you in having a meaningful conversation with your child/children. We send students work home to: Showcase the learning they have done at school Share and discuss their learning, thinking, interests, proposals and processes of learning Engage parents in the learning process because research shows that when there is a strong relationship between home and school students perform better CATHOLIC ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Next Thursday students from the 5/6/7 class (and some Year 4 students) will travel to Adelaide to participate in the Catholic Athletics Carnival. Consent and medical forms went home earlier in the week. Please return them as soon as possible. I look forward to this event being a successful day as it has been in the past. STUDENT FREE DAY REMINDER REMINDER Please remember that Friday 17 th June is a student free day. Staff will utilise the day to engage in professional learning opportunities with our mentor form Early Life Foundations based on the Walker Learning Approach. FROM THE APRIM - Damian Smith This week is National Reconciliation Week. It is a time for us to remember, reflect upon and pray for the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we reflect on Reconciliation may we remember that May 27 and June 3 are important dates in Australia s history. May 27 marks the anniversary of the 1967 referendum when Australians voted to remove clauses in the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. June 3 marks the historic 1992 Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised native title the recognition that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples rights over their lands did survive British colonization Reconciliation Week is a time to build mutually respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. Achieving reconciliation involves raising awareness and knowledge of Indigenous history and culture, changing attitudes that are often based on myths and misunderstandings, and encouraging action.

3 Prayer for Reconciliation Lord God, bring us together as one, Reconciled with you and with each other. You made us in your likeness. You gave us your Son, Jesus Christ. The photos are of plasticine models students created of a character or a prop which was crucial to the story. Measurement & Geometry - Angles We are learning to use protractors whilst measuring angles. Currently our tasks is to create a maze using various degrees.

4 Economics & Business Currently we are investigating how businesses in Peterborough run. Students have surveyed many different businesses to see what influences the goods or services that they sell. We would really like to pass on our thanks to the many businesses that accommodated our class and passed on some fantastic insights to what running a business is like. Home Hardware told us that they base their products and service choices on what season it is, customer demand and trials of products. The Federal Hotel said that they market their business through social media, letter drops and word of mouth, Peterborough Auto-Repair told us that they get continual Business through word-of-mouth as we are a small Community. Percy Butcher s told us that the best way to know what goods to provide is to listen to what the customers want. Through this (and loads more) fabulous advice, the 5/6/7 class has learnt many things that they are going to take to their own business which will start in Week 7. So far, we have learnt that it helps to listen to what your customers want, listen to feedback, sell what is local and in season and promote through word-of-mouth, letters and social media.
