Series Finnegan Room Family Holy Hour This Sunday, October 14 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Completing the special "100th" Anniversary dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, Assumption B.V.M. will host the final Holy Hour of this year-long celebration. Please make time to spend an hour a holy hour. We the Living, a parish grief support group, began a new session last Tuesday. It s not too late to join. Meetings are held in the Finnegan Room. Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Carol Barron at Assumption Parish will conduct a monthly spaghetti sauce and pasta collection. Regular ground coffee, sugar, and parmesan cheese is also appreciated. This food will be distributed and served at New Bethany Ministries in Bethlehem. Containers will be available at the entrances of the church for your contributions. October is Respect Life Month "Cherished, Chosen and Sent" To remind us of the value of every human life, there will be a rose placed next to the Blessed Mother statue, and the Holy Family statue in our church for the month of October. Registration forms are on the window sills in church and must be returned to the parish office by Monday, Oct. 15. The Annual Diocesan Men s Conference will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at DeSales University. The conference, initiated by a handful of men 7 years ago, has grown to a sellout of 600 men from throughout the diocese. The speakers include nationally known EWTN personality Doug Barry, Patrick Coffin and Fr. Stephen DeLacy. There will be 20 priests available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A Vigil Mass will be celebrated with Bishop Schlert at the conclusion of the Conference. Lunch and day long refreshments will be provided and included in your registration fee. General Admission is $40. High school and College student rates are $15. Questions can be directed to: mensconference@allentowndiocese.org or x2028 Help us take action against human trafficking. Join our parish as we participate in the S.O.A.P. Project. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution). The S.O.A.P. Project offers soap free of charge to motels along with training to be able to identify and report sex trafficking when they see it in their establishments. We are asking for donations to purchase cases of soap and labels printed with the Human Trafficking Hotline number. A case of 1,000 bars of soap and labels is $150.00, which does not include return shipping. Place your donation in an envelope marked S.OA.P. Project with the collection or bring it to the parish office before October 15. Once we receive the soap/labels, you can volunteer to help label the soap. Call the parish office at if you or your ministry would like to help. Adult Religious Education Series Catholic Spirituality, Lives of the Saints and the Sunday Gospel, featuring Bishop Robert Barron on DVD, will be offered at the following time: Sunday Mornings, 8:30-9:50 a.m. in the Finnegan Room. 3 Mrs. Colleen Weiss, Principal Mrs. Erin Faust, Assistant Principal St. Michael the Archangel School OPEN HOUSE We are excited to continue to spread the news about the educational opportunity here at St. Michael the Archangel School. Our Open House for new and transfer prospective students and their families will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5:00-7:00pm at our elementary school. Information for Pre-K through 8 th grade will be offered. UNITED WAY DONATIONS The United Way has adjusted their electronic form to include the option for write in donations directly online. You can write in St. Michael the Archangel School. Many of you are having campaigns in your work place, so please spread the word. Children don t always think about the cars driving in the parking lot as they move from place to place. Please, while driving on our grounds during PREP sessions, be mindful of the children; help us to keep them safe from harm Note that all driveways directly around the school building are considered fire lanes. During PREP, no one is permitted to stop or park in the front of the school or on the south side (by the cornfield). Please park only in parking spaces in our parking lots between 8:30 and 9:45 a.m. on Sundays. Did you know our ABVM PREP children have been collecting dimes for the Missionary Childhood Association during this Mission Awareness Month. During PREP sessions on October 24 and 28 they will lay out their collected coins in Dime Lines to remind them that those little dimes go a long way for children of MCA and the children who will receive miles of smiles from the Sassy Massey Smiles Foundation! Our PREP children are also encouraged to offer prayers and good deeds to God for children in mission countries. We congratulate and encourage our youth in showing their care for children in mission countries and living out their Baptismal call to be missionaries. Save the date! Our 4th annual Barnes & Noble night will be Tuesday, December 4 from 6-8pm. Our choir will be performing at 7pm. It is a wonderful way to get some Christmas gifts and generate funds for our school at the same time. We hope to have your support school theme: Called to be Holy Called to be Saints PREP Families: Remember to join us for the Diocesan Holy Hour this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to pray for peace as we pray the Rosary as Our Lady of Fatima asked us to do. We extend a special invitation to our 2019 Confirmation candidates and 2020 Inquirers and their families to join us at the Diocesan Holy Hour this Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Your prayers for peace and for the good of the Church are tremendous service to the world! Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is sharper than any twoedged sword. We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound questions. 5 The Y oung at Heart group at Assumption parish will sponsor: Senior Safety - At Home and Beyond A Matter of Balance This Senior Safety program, At Home and Beyond is sponsored by the Assumption Young at Heart Group. Monday, November 5th from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Join us in the Hanlon Center gym. Claudia Richan, master trainer, from the Bethlehem Department of Health, will give tips and advice on staying healthy and balanced. Do you have concerns about falling? How is your perceptual driving? Do you have Emergency Preparedness? There is no fee for this program, but we ve teamed up with Betty Lou s Pantry in Coopersburg to make a well-rounded balance of educational and social teachings. Please bring a canned good to share with those less fortunate for Thanksgiving. Wear tennis shoes and something comfortable and come to learn some tips on safety, at home and beyond! Gordon has been cutting the grass, doing maintenance on the lawn mowers, mulching leaves and dragging the ball field for over 20 years. A retired electrician from Bethlehem Steel, he is quick to volunteer for any parish project. He is a real gem! Gordon and his wife Jean are founding members of Assumption Church. BAPTISMS Baptisms are scheduled in the parish office after receipt of sponsor certificates. Baptisms take place immediately following the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. THANKS GORDON! GETTING GRACE, a film by Daniel Roebuck, will be shown at DeSales University on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Gambet Center Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. There will be a Q & A session following the movie with actor and director, Daniel Roebuck. Daniel is an actor of television, film, and theatre. His best known role is Deputy Marshal Robert Biggs in The Fugitive. Roebuck was born in Bethlehem and graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in This event is sponsored by the Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales University.
