On the 7 th of the month we hosted our annual Memorial Mass at the parish church in Plaistow. The council was well represented in the pews and in the roster of ministers who served that morning, and the reception we hosted in the church hall following Mass was also well attended. It was great to see so many of you in attendance, and the number of people from outside the council who came downstairs after Mass was also great to see. I want to again thank Harlan Cheney for taking the lead on organizing things this year, along with everyone else who helped in some way. This first weekend of October also featured our semiannual blood drive at the Atkinson Community Center, which brought in all the donors that the Red Cross staff could handle that afternoon. A couple of weeks later, on the 20 th, the council hosted its annual Italian festival in the Parish Center. We hosted somewhere around 100 people for spaghetti and meatballs, dessert, music and about a dozen interesting theme baskets and other raffle items. With this event on the books the council was able to fulfill its $2500 pledge to the parish capital campaign. The buildings on the Plaistow campus have their new roofs but there is still plenty of work to be completed, with a fresh coat of paint for the church and rectory in Newton likely coming up next. A BIG thank-you to Dave and Stephanie Meader for their usual outstanding work on the dinner, to Rudy Ferrandi for the hours he spent in the kitchen, and to the setup, serving and kitchen crew who took care of business on the day of the dinner. I also want to thank everyone who assembled a gift basket or contributed items to the raffle table. On the following afternoon the state council conducted its fall quarterly meeting at St. Michael Parish in Exeter. In a departure from the usual format, those in attendance worked their way around the room to take part in breakout sessions on several different topics, ranging from the new Faith in Action program to the online membership option that is now available. It was a very informative afternoon and, while the ride to Littleton for the fall quarterly meeting a few years ago had some lovely scenery, I was glad that this one was only a few miles away. 2 Volume 12, 13, Issue 2 4 Council Event Calendar Page 2 (Continued from page 1) Towards the end of the month, on the 27 th, we will be conducting one more day of Tootsie Roll Drive fundraising at various locations in Seabrook. As I write this all the available time slots for volunteers have been filled, so I thank you for your response and for your support of this program. Coming up in November will be the parish Craft Fair on the 10 th, and the council will be heading over to the Plaistow Market Basket on the morning of the 16 th to put together some Thanksgiving dinners for the food pantry. Before all of that, however, there is All Saints Day on November 1, which is a holy day of obligation. Masses here at St. Luke will be on the 31 st at 6:30 PM in Plaistow and on the 1 st at 8:00 AM in Newton. The Worthy Grand Knight, Jeff Lozeau called the meeting to order at 7:05PM. An opening prayer was offered and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited. Report of Admissions: None Bills and Communications: Per capita tax to Supreme paid for the next six months. Grand Knight's Report: Jeff said the fall Tootsie Roll Drive will take place on October 27, 2018 in Seabrook, NH from 9AM to 3 PM. The Memorial Mass will occur on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the 10 AM Mass. Chaplain's Report: God bless The Knights of Columbus. PGK, Mike Rosa called for a rosary check. He cited the tragic natural disasters of Hurricane Florence where people have lost their homes, jobs and communities; and, the earth quake and tsunami in Palu, Indonesia where more than nineteen hundred have lost their lives. He requests that we keep these victims in our prayers. Treasurer's Report: Joe Klimaszewski related the current balance of the General Fund. The Saint Jude Open account is not audited until December. Service Programs Report: DGK, Peter Richard said that proceeds from the Italian Dinner will go to the parish Capital Campaign; therefore, council members are encouraged to purchase meal tickets whether or not they intend to attend the meal. The fall TRD date will be held on October 27th; the location is Seabrook, NH. Pete recognized Golf League Chairman, Joe Klimaszewski who said that about forty people attended the league banquet which took place at The Garrison Golf Course on September 23, 2018 at 1 PM. Pete advised the members that the Memorial Mass that will occur at the 10 AM Mass on Sunday, October 7, Refreshments will be served in the downstairs parish hall after Mass. Faith The major functions at this juncture are: Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP) Into the Breach Welcome Back Mass Sacramental gifts Silver Rose Italian Festival Building the Domestic Church Stations of The Cross Rosary Program Confirmation Spiritual Reflection Program Adoration Holy Hour Memorial Mass The chair and co-chair are Jim Edwards and Bill Tucker. Please feel free to contact them with your questions, concerns or suggestions. DGK, Richards announced that a Rosary is being held at St. Patrick's at 4 PM on Sunday, October 7. He also apprised the brothers that ETWN speaker, Trent Horne will be making a presentation at St. Michael's in Exeter, NH from 8 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 13. Dave Meader stated that the Italian dinner will be held at 5 PM in the Parish Center on Saturday, October 20, Stephanie Meader is preparing 10 gift baskets and the treasure chest that will be raffled at the dinner. Dave and Stephanie are looking for people to put gift baskets together. Dave will need help from council brothers to set up for the dinner at 9AM on the 20th. Anyone moved to participate in effecting the success of this dinner is encouraged to call the Meader's at Family Important, a chair and co-chair are needed for this program area; please contact DGK, Pete Richards, if you have an interest in guiding this effort, that includes: Food for Families Family Prayer Night Family-of-the-Month/Year Consecration of the Holy Family Keep Christ In Christmas Good Friday Family Promotion Family Fully Alive Food Bank and Food Baskets Family Week Adopt a Family for Christmas Volunteers are needed to pick up tables needed for the Christmas Fair on Thursday, November 8, The tables will be loaned to the parish by the Lone Tree Scout Reservation. Pete Richards states that Pete Couture is in charge of the People Helping People program. Any brother who knows of someone in need can contact brothers Couture or Cheney. Brother Dave Meader, assisted by his wife, Stephanie are conducting another Italian Dinner on October 20, Rudy Ferrandi will be cooking so a delicious meal will be prepared for attendees. Members willing to help set up for the meal are encouraged to contact Dave at Deputy Grand Knight, Pete Richards urges council members to buy tickets even if they will not attend because the proceeds of the meal are already pledged to The Saint Luke the Evangelist Capital Project. The Seabrook Tootsie Roll Drive will be scheduled for October 27, Please join in our endeavors to serve our parish and community. The 2018 Christmas Party will be hosted by the Rosa family once again this December 8th. November 20th is the deadline for RSVP's because the festivities are being catered. A free-will offering will be made to support our parish food pantry. The host says the celebration begins at 5 PM and ends, whenever. The Council Golf League, Tournament and Dinner took place on September 23, A blood drive was conducted at the ACC on October 5th. Thirty-four units of blood were donated. This program is chaired by Bob Nadeau and co-chaired by Jim Edwards. The activities are: Marches for Life Pregnancy Center Support Special Olympics Tootsie Roll Drive Ultrasound Program Baby Bottles Christian Refugee Relief Mother's Day Carnations Silver Rose Novena for Life Mass for People with Special Needs New Hampshire Birthright Bob Nadeau mentioned that the annual Birthright Dinner will be held in January He articulated that the Special Olympics receives money from the TRD which will be held in Seabrook on October27, Brother Bob previously stated that our council received an appreciation plaque from NH Birthright. Bob said that the Manchester Cathedral is involved in this year's 40 Days of Life Program. He will attempt to organize a Pro-Life Rally in our area during the spring of You will notice some apparent overlap of activities in some of the programs. A result of activities in one program supporting an activity in another program. Old Business: $400 in front money for the Italian Dinner; re-tabled because of the lack of a quorum. Tabled until the November meeting because a quorum to conduct business was lacking. Fourth Degree Report: Anyone interested in becoming a 4th Degree can call Gordie Lewis or Tom Ingham. The new Fourth Degree, District Master is Rich McDermott. Field Agent's Report: No report Fourth Degree Report No report District Deputy's Report: No report, but the GK said that the fall, quarterly, State Meeting will occur at St Michaels's in Exeter on October 21, Jeff also said that District Meetings will be held twice a year.
