3 We have all said or heard "Meet you at the church," "The UM Church is located at..." or "Do you go to church?" R. Richard Burcham has defined the church as follows. A church is a family of people, people who are loving Christians, people who seek and receive God's love and forgiveness. These people praise the Lord, love the unlovely, rejoice in what they have rather than despair in what they don't have. They are steadfast in their faith, faithful in their prayers, and prayerful in their support. A church is a group people who are willing to help and accept others who are in need of help or acceptance, people who are willing to accept change when change will quicken the march of Christianity, people who are willing to serve wherever there is a need or whenever there is a call. A church is a group of people who count every new day as a bonus and an opportunity to travel in Christ's steps, people who consider being human as a privilege and not an excuse. A church is a group of people who realize that they witness by their acts and are positive in their acts and thoughts, rather than negative. They approach a problem with solutions instead of excuses. They approach a project with anticipation rather that with regret. They think with their hearts as well as with their heads. Their witness accompanies them as they participate in their community's politics, civic and fraternal organizations, school functions, social affair, scouting groups, and little league games. Their witness leads them to do a thing for somebody without expecting thanks of praise. Their witness gives them the patience to enjoy rather that endure their children, to honor rather than avoid their parents. Their witness gives them the desire to love as well as be loved and the ability to listen as well as to talk Let me add, along with this a pastor's mailing contained this thought. "Definition of a church: what you have left over when the building burns down and the preacher leaves town." Another message in this topic is simply stated, "See you in Church." Rev. Lee M. 4 The Nies s We are Doug and Lisa Neis. My husband Doug is a lifelong member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church and I transferred my membership from the DeSoto United Methodist Church to WUMC when we got married 33 years ago. We have two children, Scott and Katie, who are also members of the church. We own and operate a dairy farm outside of Wellsville. Our son Scott farms with us. Scott is married to Alison and they are expecting a baby in February. Alison is a 5th grade teacher in Baldwin. Our daughter Katie is married to Ethan and they have a son named Carson who is 17 months old. Ethan is a chiropractor and has a practice in Baldwin. Moms actual day is August 27th, we will celebrate on September , from 2-4pm at Wellsville United Methodist Church in Hays Hall. Family and friends from far and near will gather with love and memories only, no gifts please. See you there. Linda, Ronnie and Connie

6 Wellsville Days is upon us! Our float committee has been working tirelessly to create the church s float. This year, the theme is The Wild Wild West. We are all excited to see what they have come up with for this year. (Hint: it ties into the history of Wellsville!) Wellsville Days is always a wondrous time. There are games and rides for the kids, tons of vendor booths to buy things, a parade, and even a petting zoo. There is something new this year, a talent show! As most of you know, the floats are judged and can win prizes. So, make sure to come out and vote for your favorite one! We will be having a bake sale at our booth again this year. If you would like to donate some baked goods, they can be dropped off at the church on Friday the 21st or at the booth on Saturday. Page 6 **S E PT EM BE R **
