Psalm 20:5 ESV Hello Church Family, Let s Start Something Saying the last few weeks feels like stepping into a whirlwind would be an understatement. Four weeks ago I received word from the District Superintendent, Rev. Larry Bauman, that the Bishop intended to appointment me to Asbury. Less than 24 hours later I visited with Sandra Haney, the Pastor Parish Relations Committee Chair, to schedulethe first meeting with the committee and discuss the transition of pastors and my role as your new pastor. The following week, on my birthday none the less, my wife Ginny and I purchased a house. The very next day a small army of friends and children from a Sunday School class at FUMC arrived at our former house at 5 o clock in the afternoon. By 8 o clock they had moved 90 percent of our belongings into the new house only a few doors down the street. I am told it was quite a sight seeing a parade of children carrying toys and small items from one house to another. Now if I could only find my sock drawer. The last week of May I spent three days with over eight hundred United Methodists at Annual Conference voting on delegates, hearing reports, and celebrating the work of the Church advancing the Kingdom of God. The conference culminated in the reading of the appointments, which included me to Asbury. This past Sunday capped it all with a wonderful Sunday service and an amazing fellowship pot-luck. It was official! My family would like to extend their gratitude to so many who received us warmly. It may take a little time to get settled into the position, but I know we have lots of days to get to know each other and capture God s vision for our work together. In the midst of it all, I can t help but give thanks to an all-knowing, omnipresence God who orders our steps and brings us together to serve Him through the ministries at Asbury. I am humbled to receive this appointment and follow in the steps of some, great people of faith, both clergy and laity, who proclaimed the name of Christ proudly. My prayer is that we continue to rise up a new generation of standard bearers who proclaim with us the joy of the Lord s salvation in Christ. In Christ, Pastor Travis 1

From May 7 th to June 4 th the Food Pantry served 131 families. This included a total of 324 people, 242 of which were adults and 82 children. We have seen an increase in families with children since school is out and expect that this will continue during the summer. Here are some of our regular volunteers: on the pickup day- David Mask transports the food. The men of SOAR who are available that morning help load his trailer and even help load trucks or trailers for other churches who are picking up food. Food sacking is done by: Betty Binkley, Whitney Clifton, Lou Helleland and the men of SOAR. On the day of the food pantry volunteers/workers include: Front desk/greeters: Emilee Stephens and Mike Horton. Computer check in: Whitney Clifton (Pastor Linda also helped with this and others have been cross trained to do this role if needed) Food distribution: Cindy Keefer, Lou Helleland, Micah Gordan and the men of SOAR. The men of SOAR also help people carry the boxes of food to their cars. Food Pantry The Asbury Food Pantry has had a very busy past month. We were blessed to receive about 4000 pounds of food from the Post Office food drive. Thanks to many volunteers after church one Sunday and many additional hours by Whitney Clifton and the men of SOAR, the food was sorted, expiration dates checked and food sacked. The children and youth of The Way also enthusiastically helped one Tuesday evening and kept the teachers, Doug 2
